The conversation will focus on situational analysis of mental health in Nyeri County, as well as mental health financing and investment in the county.

NYSWG TSHIRT GIVEAWAY AWARDING

Mr Duncan Gikaara's road to full recovery from mental health issues and alcohol use is truly an inspiring one. For over 25 years, he struggled with alcohol use. He struggled with ADHD, that got him losing lucrative jobs, family and relationships.

His journey to recovery involved rehabilitation, a 90-days programme and the 12 steps of Alcoholic Anonymous program.

On 11th March 2026, the NYSWG submitted a public petition to the Clerk of the County Assembly - Nyeri demanding the establishment and operationalisation of a GBV Rescue Centre in Nyeri County among other prayers in the petition.

Following the petition, the committee on Gender and Social Services invited the lead petitioners for a consultative meeting chaired by Hon. Lucy Wanyitu, to deliberate on the petition and the urgent need for sustainable interventions to address the rising cases of SGBV in Nyeri County.

Our petition was informed by the urgent need to strengthen survivor centred GBV prevention and response systems in Nyeri County and to address existing implementation gaps despite clear policy commitments under the Nyeri County Gender and Development Policy 2021-2025, Nyeri County Youth and Development Policy 2023 and commitments made during the Inaugural Nyeri Youth Summit 2025.

We appreciate the Committee’s commitment to hearing us the petitioners and engaging on the issues raised.

We remain hopeful that this process will culminate in concrete recommendations, including dedicated budgetary allocations in the FY 2026/27 budget and supplementary budget to ensure that survivors of GBV have access to comprehensive protection, support and recovery services.

VIJANA NA UGATUZI!

This evening, representatives of the Nyeri Youth Sector Working Group had the pleasure of engaging with Mr. Conrad Keya, Chairperson of the National Steering Committee of the Coalition of Youth for Devolution, in a relaxed yet meaningful catch up session.

The interaction provided an opportunity to reconnect, exchange perspectives on the evolving youth agenda across Kenya and Nyeri County and reflect on the critical role of young people in advancing devolution, governance and sustainable development in Nyeri and Kenya at large

We value the opportunity to strengthen relationships and foster collaboration towards a more responsive and youth-centered governance ecosystem.

We appreciate Mr. Keya’s continued leadership and contribution to creating platforms that amplify youth voices and strengthen civic participation across the country.
