We are proud to celebrate another major milestone for Trans World Radio Kenya's SIFA FM as we retained the Best Radio Production Award at the prestigious Annual Media Excellence Awards organized by the Media Council of Kenya.
A huge congratulations to Michael Kwoba for being named Best Radio Producer, reaffirming our continued commitment to excellence in journalism, storytelling, and radio production.
The award-winning feature, submitted as a joint entry alongside Samuel Geno and Suzanne Mbodze, explored the intersection of culture, climate science, and AI technology in climate reporting in Marsabit County through a partnership with BBC Media Action Kenya. The story highlighted how emerging AI technologies can strengthen climate reporting while preserving the cultural realities and lived experiences of communities most affected by climate change.
This achievement is a testament to the power of partnership, teamwork, innovation, and dedication. It reflects the importance of telling impactful African stories with accuracy, depth, and purpose.
As Michael Kwoba shared:
“This award is a result of partnership, teamwork, and dedication. Marsabit County is a region where climate reporting and culture are very serious matters, and with the emergence of AI technology, it plays a key role in climate reporting. We thank BBC Media Action for the support in ensuring we tell the most impactful stories.”
We also celebrate the continued excellence within our productions.
🏆 Last year, Geoffrey Otieno won the award through a joint entry with Suzanne Mbodze.
👏 This year, Suzanne Mbodze also emerged Runner-Up in the Tourism Reporting Category.
Speaking during the awards ceremony as the Chief Guest, Hon. Rebecca Miano - EGH, the Cabinet Secretary - Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife - Kenya, emphasized the critical role of the media in fact-checking during the AI era, noting that while AI enhances efficiency and capacity, it can never replace the responsibility and integrity required in news gathering and dissemination.
At Trans World Radio Kenya and SIFA FM, we remain committed to producing journalism that informs, transforms, speaks hope and inspires communities across Kenya and beyond.
