Over the past quarter, we have been actively conducting community outreaches across Narok County, focusing on advocating for girls’ early enrolment, retention, and transition to the next level of education.
Despite progress in access to education, significant gaps remain. In Kenya, while primary school enrolment for girls is relatively high, late enrolment is still common in pastoralist communities, affecting learning outcomes and completion rates. In Narok County, the dropout rate for girls remains a concern estimated at over 20% in some areas largely driven by factors such as poverty, cultural practices, and teenage pregnancy. Transition rates from primary to secondary school also remain low, with some regions reporting less than 60% of girls successfully moving to the next level.
Through our outreach efforts, we have been engaging parents, community leaders, and local stakeholders to emphasize the importance of enrolling girls in school at the right age and supporting them throughout their education journey.
A key highlight of this quarter has been our advocacy for re-enrolment, supporting teenage girls who had previously dropped out of school due to teenage pregnancy to return to the classroom. By working closely with the community and schools, we are helping to break stigma and create second chances for girls to continue their education.
Education is not just a right it is a pathway to dignity, opportunity, and empowerment. Ensuring that every girl starts school on time, stays in school, and transitions successfully is critical to building stronger, more resilient communities.

Partners, stakeholders, community leaders, and members of the community at Oloshapani came together to celebrate **International Women’s Day in Narok County, recognizing the critical role women play in advancing sustainable development and community transformation.

The celebration was aligned with the 2026 International Women’s Day theme: “Give To Gain”, which emphasizes that when individuals, communities, and institutions invest in women and girls, everyone benefits. Empowering women is not just a moral responsibility it is a strategic investment in stronger families, resilient communities, and inclusive development.

This year’s theme highlights several key actions that stakeholders must embrace to accelerate gender equality:

1. Giving opportunities for women and girls through education and leadership.
2. Giving resources and support to women-led initiatives and entrepreneurship.
3. Giving visibility and voice to women in decision-making spaces.
4. Giving protection and justice to address gender-based violence and discrimination.
5. Giving mentorship and knowledge to empower the next generation of women leaders.

The event at Oloshapani provided a platform for dialogue, collaboration, and renewed commitment among government institutions, civil society organizations, and community members to advance the rights and empowerment of women and girls in Narok County.

As we reflect on this important day, let us continue working together to give support, opportunities, and resources so that communities can gain equality, dignity, and sustainable development for all women and girls.

Female Ge***al Mutilation (FGM) continues to rob young girls in the Maasai community of their autonomy, health, and future. It is heartbreaking to see these girls unable to make decisions for themselves, as cultural pressures and harmful traditions dictate their paths.
While community-led organizations are working tirelessly to combat FGM, they face significant challenges, especially a lack of funding to sustain their impactful initiatives. These organizations are on the frontlines, providing education, safe spaces, and advocacy, but their efforts require more support.
We must amplify their voices, fund their work, and stand in solidarity to protect the rights of these girls. Ending FGM is not just a health or cultural issue—it is a human rights imperative.

Day 4: 16 days of activism against GBV.

“Violence against women is perhaps
the most shameful human rights violation.
It knows no boundaries of geography,
culture or wealth. As long as it continues,
we cannot claim to be making real progress
towards equality, development and peace.”
