Over the past quarter, we have been actively conducting community outreaches across Narok County, focusing on advocating for girls’ early enrolment, retention, and transition to the next level of education.
Despite progress in access to education, significant gaps remain. In Kenya, while primary school enrolment for girls is relatively high, late enrolment is still common in pastoralist communities, affecting learning outcomes and completion rates. In Narok County, the dropout rate for girls remains a concern estimated at over 20% in some areas largely driven by factors such as poverty, cultural practices, and teenage pregnancy. Transition rates from primary to secondary school also remain low, with some regions reporting less than 60% of girls successfully moving to the next level.
Through our outreach efforts, we have been engaging parents, community leaders, and local stakeholders to emphasize the importance of enrolling girls in school at the right age and supporting them throughout their education journey.
A key highlight of this quarter has been our advocacy for re-enrolment, supporting teenage girls who had previously dropped out of school due to teenage pregnancy to return to the classroom. By working closely with the community and schools, we are helping to break stigma and create second chances for girls to continue their education.
Education is not just a right it is a pathway to dignity, opportunity, and empowerment. Ensuring that every girl starts school on time, stays in school, and transitions successfully is critical to building stronger, more resilient communities.
