BRIAN K. MWANGI | LEADERSHIP IN ACTION

Meet Brian, a Registered Nurse, Youth Leader, and passionate advocate for meaningful youth engagement. He represents a generation of young people who are not waiting for change, they are stepping forward to lead it. Through service, leadership, and creating spaces where young voices are heard, Brian continues to inspire his peers to speak up, participate, and make a difference.

During the SRHR Gala and Leadership Showcase 2026, held at the Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS) Nanyuki Office, Brian served as an outstanding Moderator, skillfully guiding the discussions and creating an engaging, inclusive environment where young people felt confident to ask questions, share their experiences, learn from one another, and contribute freely.

His leadership went beyond the stage. He was also part of the team that planned and coordinated the event, contributing his time, ideas, and energy toward making the Gala and Leadership Showcase a memorable success.

Through his involvement, Brian reflects the kind of youth leadership that turns participation into action bringing young people together, encouraging meaningful conversations around Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), and ensuring that youth voices are heard and valued.

Great leadership. Great moderation. Great teamwork.

Congratulations, Kimani Mwangi, for showing what it means to lead, serve, and create opportunities for fellow young people to thrive.

Youth Leading. Youth Engaging. Youth Creating Change.

What if leadership isn’t about the title you hold, but the courage to act when it matters most?

Christine Wanjugu, representing Pathways Policy Institute (PPI) and the Better Boyz Program, reminds us that leadership begins long before anyone calls us leaders.

Through her perspective on youth engagement and advocacy, Christine challenges young people to recognize the power they already have. Leadership can be correcting misinformation, respecting boundaries, challenging stigma, speaking up for others, or simply showing up for a friend who needs support.

Her message is simple but powerful: Don’t wait for permission, a position, or a title to start making a difference.

You don’t need a title to lead. You just need the courage to start.

What’s one small act of leadership you can take today?

“Your health. Your rights. Your voice. Own them.”

Young people should never be afraid to ask questions, seek accurate information, or speak openly about their sexual and reproductive health. Take charge of your health, know your rights, make informed choices, and seek the care and information you deserve.

A powerful reminder from Alice Gachigi, Reproductive Health Coordinator for Laikipia County and Laikipia East Sub-County Nursing Officer: being informed is empowering and speaking up can protect your health and your future.

“Young people have a right to accurate information, quality services, and a meaningful voice in decisions about their sexual and reproductive health and rights. We must speak up, challenge stigma, advocate for responsive policies, and claim our space at the decision-making table.”
- Wambui Gikonyo -

SRHR is more than a health issue, it is about dignity, rights, choice, and ensuring every young person can make informed decisions about their body and future.

What happens when young people are given a safe space to learn, speak up and take charge of their health?

Laikipia County proudly hosted the first-ever Central Region SRHR Gala on 8th August, 2026 at Kenya Red Cross–Nanyuki Office, bringing together youth from Laikipia, Kiambu, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Nairobi, Embu and Murang’a.

The event was graced by Regional Chairperson Mr. David Mwangi, Head of Central Region Ms. Esther Chege, Laikipia Board Chair Mr. Jack Kariuki, Laikipia County Coordinator Ms. Susan Maina, Regional Youth Vice Chair Trevor, Kiambu Youth Chair Mark Mwenda, Kiambu County Coordinator Anthony Kuria, James and Chloe from Nairobi, Simon from Murang’a, representatives from Nyeri, Kirinyaga and Embu, as well as Laikipia Board members, and regional staff.

Through SRHR conversations, young people took to the stage for modelling and creative expression, dansing, rap music, bringing confidence, colour, talent and excitement to a day built around empowerment. Keeping the energy alive throughout the day was our MC Mithamo, who steered the programme with confidence, humour and youthful energy, keeping participants engaged and ensuring the conversations, performances and activities flowed seamlessly.

The message was clear: informed and empowered youth build healthier, stronger communities.

MEET TIMOTHY NGUYO – A MAN WHO CHOSE TO SERVE, INSPIRE, AND EMPOWER.

What does true leadership look like?

Is it the title you hold... or the lives you transform?

For Timo, the answer has always been simple: serve first, inspire always.

From joining the Kenya Red Cross Society as a Branch Youth Coordinator (2006–2009), to serving as a Laikipia Branch Board Member (2009–2015), later as a Regional Board Member, and now proudly standing as a Life Member, Timothy's journey has been defined by compassion, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to humanity.

Even while abroad, his heart has never left Laikipia. He continues to champion and support the Kenya Red Cross Society Laikipia Branch, proving that distance can never separate a servant leader from the people and community they love.

As the Founder of the Tim Nguyo Community Excellence Awards, he has created a platform that celebrates outstanding community achievements, youth empowerment, and local leadership; reminding young people that their service matters and their impact deserves recognition.

During the 2026 Walk in Laikipia at the Nanyuki KRCS Office, Timo honored three remarkable youth volunteers with the Volunteer of the Year Awards:

🏆 Joseph Kamau (Casualty 001)
🏆 Abdulmalik Mohammed (Osama)
🏆 Joy Kabura (Exceptional Youth Volunteer)

Their dedication, consistency, and selfless commitment to serving others continue to inspire our community, and Timothy's recognition of their efforts reflects the kind of leader he is one who lifts others as he climbs.

Timo reminds us that the greatest legacy is not measured by what we achieve for ourselves, but by the opportunities we create and the people we inspire along the way.**

If your actions today became someone else's reason to believe in humanity tomorrow… would they remember your name?

This weekend, we are honored to welcome Timothy Nguyo to the SRHR Gala & Leadership Showcase 2026 as we celebrate servant leadership, youth excellence, and community transformation.

Let's give him the warmest welcome he deserves!

The future belongs to those who choose to serve, mentor, and inspire. Be that person. Your impact starts today.**

What if your greatest achievement isn't the title you hold but the leaders you leave behind?

Leadership is not about being remembered for your position. It's about being remembered for the lives you transformed.

This Saturday, 8th August 2026, Anthony Kuria will be among the distinguished leaders at the Kenya Red Cross Society Laikipia Youth SRHR Gala & Leadership Showcase 2026; a vibrant celebration of youth excellence, leadership, fashion, music, art, culture, mentorship, and the transformative power of young people driving positive change.

For Anthony, leadership has always been about leaving every space better than he found it.

As Kenya Red Cross Society Laikipia Youth Chair, he was driven by one vision: to build a united, empowered, and thriving generation of young leaders. Together with his team, they intentionally bridged the generational gap, created a safe and enabling environment for young people, strengthened youth engagement, and mobilized resources that allowed young leaders to grow, innovate, and serve with confidence.

His greatest reward isn't found in the office he once held..it's in the leaders who emerged because someone believed in them. Today, many of the young people he mentored are leading teams, mentoring others, and multiplying the impact across communities. That is the kind of legacy that never fades.

Anthony Kuria's leadership philosophy is simple yet profound: listen first, understand deeply, then act wisely. Every challenge deserves thoughtful analysis, every voice deserves to be heard, and every decision should be guided by integrity, logic, and the greater good. He firmly believes that while leadership demands courage, respect remains its greatest currency because respect builds trust, trust builds unity, and unity creates lasting change.

Beyond leadership, he is a devoted family man, humanitarian, and advocate for community service. He finds peace in nature, strength through fitness, and purpose in serving others. His greatest inspiration comes from his faith in God and the conviction that every opportunity to serve is an opportunity to leave the world better than we found it.

This year's Leadership Showcase is more than an event, it's a reminder that real leadership is measured by the people you empower, not the applause you receive.

If your journey could inspire just one young person to believe in themselves, wouldn't that be a legacy worth building?
