Daraja Academy conservation and wildlife advocates! This sounds very interesting!

Laikipia Wildlife Forum is pleased to share an upcoming public talk organized by our partners, The East African Wild Life Society

Join Dr. Claire Okell – an internationally trained veterinarian, PhD, and founder of The Pangolin Project – as she reveals how one of the world’s rarest mammals, the Giant Ground Pangolin, is transforming conservation in the Mara’s Nyekweri ecosystem.

In a talk titled “From the Edge: Giant Ground Pangolin as a Catalyst for Nyekweri Ecosystem Recovery,” she will share a powerful species recovery story and bold strategies in conservation, while highlighting how protecting Kenya’s only Giant Ground Pangolins can help restore one of the country’s most biodiverse landscapes. This is also a chance to connect with change-makers driving real impact in wildlife conservation.

Venue: Cape Chestnut, Nanyuki
Date: Saturday, 20th September 2025
Time: From 11:30 a.m.

This is a talk you won’t want to miss! Please help spread the word by sharing the poster widely within your networks. More details are in the poster.

Daraja Academy, citizens of Kenya, and all whom value wildlife and wild places - this is a terrible development. We spent time in the Karura Forest last month with their excellent biologists, working on setting up a formal research study of their African clawless otter species. The Friends of Karura Forest have been protecting this jewel of a wild space smack dab in the middle of metropolitan Nairobi from ongoing outside pressures to develop it, and they need the world's help to save this special little corner of our planet. Learn about the Friends of Karura and the good work they're doing for the community, their country, and the wonderful plants and animals that call it home.

Wow, what a fantastic group!
