In Mayianat Commununity Land, .a.n.c.c.i with the support from the for Indigenous Peoples , we convened women, youth, elders and local stakeholders to open up conversations around land and water governance to know who decides, who benefits and who is often left out.
For a long time, women despite being the primary water users and youth the next custodians of these landscapes have had limited influence in these decisions. This dialogue was about shifting that.
By creating space for shared learning between traditional knowledge holders and emerging community leaders, we are laying the foundation for more inclusive, locally-led climate resilience.
It is the beginning of rethinking governance where equity, culture and sustainability meet.

Spotling REACH 4 Rangelands: REACH is LANCCI's flagship programme that contributes to conservation goals through restoration degdraded grazing lands and reviving pastoralism through an ecosystems health approach.

The REACH programme, plays a vital role in protecting both the soil and the land through direct interventions such as reseeding, and construction of zai pants and Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration.

Kenya has officially launched the Kenya National Carbon Registry (KNCR) which is a significant step toward transparency, accountability, and integrity in carbon markets.

This registry will help track and verify carbon credits generated within the country, prevent double counting, and strengthen Kenya’s participation in global carbon trading under the Paris Agreement.

For those of us working closely with IPLCs this development is especially important.

As carbon markets expand across Africa, integrity and community inclusion must remain at the center. Systems like this can help ensure that climate finance does not bypass the very communities protecting ecosystems on the ground.

The next step is ensuring that communities are not just participants but rightful beneficiaries.

Lancci in conjunction with shulmai community conservation yesterday held meeting with the youth, women, grazing land commettee leaders, elders and pastors, had a participatory dialogue to strengthening participatory conflict and capacity assessment (FGDs) .
The main Objectives are:-

2.To develop and formalize a culturally appropriate, transparent, and equitable. community-owned Benefit Sharing Agreement.
3.To establish and operationalize an effective, accessible, and culturally-grounded Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM) rooted in Yaaku Indigenous knowledge and practices.
4.To restore the agency and legitimacy of the Yaaku governance systems in managing community land affairs and conflict resolution.

Expected Results
1.A significant reduction in resource-based conflicts within the Shulmai Community Land.
2. A documented and community-endorsed -Benefit Sharing Agreement Framework that outlines clear, fair, and transparent processes for distributing benefits from land investments.
3.A documented and community-endorsed - Grievance Redress Mechanism Framework that provides a clear, step-by-step process for resolving disputes.
4.Increased confidence and collaboration- between the elected CLMC and the traditional Laiguanak system, leading to more unified and respected decision-making.

We are excited to start a new project in Shulmai Community Land!
This project is for the Yaaku people. It will bring together elders, youth, women, and the Community Land Management Committee (CLMC) to work together for peace and fairness.

The main goal is to foster sustainable peace and social cohesion within the Shulmai Community Land by empowering and revitalizing Yaaku Indigenous governance structures, by enabling equitable benefit-sharing and effective conflict resolution for all community members.

Through this project we will:
1. Strengthen our traditional leaders and committees in preventing conflicts and solving problems peacefully.
2. Create a fair and clear way to share benefits from land investments.
3. Set up a system to solve complaints and disputes using our own Yaaku knowledge and customs.
4. Build trust and cooperation between elders, leaders, women, and youth so everyone’s voice is heard.

Happy World Forest Day. This year’s theme, Forests and Food, highlights the vital role forests play in sustaining life. At LANCCI, we champion beekeeping as a nature-friendly livelihood that not only supports biodiversity but also enhances food security. Healthy forests mean thriving bees, and thriving bees mean better pollination for crops and nutritious honey for communities. Let’s protect our forests, empower beekeepers, and nourish our future.PARAN_KenyaThousand CurrentsPastoralist Peoples' InitiativeIMPACT_KENYASynchronicity EarthAmerican Jewish World Service - AJWSGlobal Greengrants FundWylde InternationalGlobal Landscapes ForumWorld Resources InstituteCLAN Network KenyaThe Christensen FundMt Kenya HubWyss Academy for Nature

Youth especially from pastoral communities play a vital role in tending livestock and stewarding natural resources in their territories. However, they are often caught up in the frontlines of resource based conflict.

Earlier this week LANCCI held a two-day community dialogue that brought together elders and youth from Kijape, Musul and Nkiloriti community lands gathering their perspectives and evaluating the effects of cross-border conflicts and their role in promoting holistic pastoralism and landscape stewardship. Through this initiative, we strive to foster peaceful coexistence, promote inclusive resource management, and enhance intergenerational collaboration to ensure the long-term sustainability of pastoralist livelihoods.

Reflecting on a productive week at the IFIP Global Conference 2025 in Naivasha. LANCCI was honored to attend in solidarity with fellow organizations committed to strengthening philanthropic infrastructure. We engaged in valuable discussions on participatory grantmaking, the importance of unrestricted funding and its importance for especially indigenous youth-led organizations.

Key take-aways for LANCCI were interacting with a session on human rights & conservation and contributing to how young people can assert and uphold Indigenous Peoples rights in the context of Nature Conservation.

We got the opportunity of meeting with other young leaders and collectively presenting a manifesto the funders who were present in the conference. The Manifesto was a pathway that highlights the challenges that youth led organizations and movements face. It also proposes possible recommendations that are a solution to this challenge.

Looking forward to continued partnerships!

At Laikipia North, we believe pastoralism can be more than a means of survival or a livelihood it can be sustainable and regenerative. Holistic pastoralism is not just a practice but a way of life that nurtures both people and the land.

•What is Holistic Pastoralism?

It is a sustainable approach to rangeland management that emphasizes on;

Ecosystem Restoration: Revitalizing degraded lands by improving soil health, reducing erosion, and fostering biodiversity.

Livelihood Sustainability: Equipping pastoral communities with improved livestock management techniques to enhance productivity and economic stability.

Climate Adaptation: Strengthening resilience to droughts and extreme weather through water conservation, pasture regeneration, and adaptive grazing practices.

Laikipia North Community Conservation Initiative(LANCCI)we advocate for holistic pastoralism, a natural based approach that balances livestock, land and communities well-being that offers a lasting solution to land degradation and economic hardship.

We co-create community projects with communities in the frontlines of climate change to ensure that our works sustains a lasting impact empowering pastoral communities and promoting sustainability.
