Since launching our outreach program last year, Ecophilia has been on a mission to inspire young minds and strengthen environmental stewardship across schools. The goal is simple yet powerful, to ensure that every school we visit has an active, vibrant environmental club where students can learn, lead, and live out conservation values.

Through engaging workshops, interactive discussions, and hands-on activities, students are gaining a deeper understanding of how their daily choices impact the environment. From waste management and tree planting to biodiversity awareness and climate action, these young changemakers are learning that sustainability begins with them.

The progress so far has been inspiring, schools are embracing the Ecophilia spirit, clubs are growing stronger, and students are becoming passionate advocates for a greener, cleaner future. Together, we’re nurturing a generation that not only learns about conservation but lives it every day.

From play to practice.

At Burguret Comprehensive School, students stepped into the role of nature itself, taking part in a seed dispersal game that breaks down one of the most important processes in ecosystem restoration.

Through simple, hands-on learning, they explored how seeds move, how landscapes regenerate, and why every action matters in restoring degraded environments.

This is how conservation sticks. Not in theory, but in experience.

Delivered in partnership with Laikipia Wildlife Forum, shaping the next generation of conservation stewards.

Some lessons are best taught outdoors.

We recently visited Airstrip Comprehensive School for an outreach session that had learners on their feet, laughing, and thinking about nature in a completely different way.

Through a game on seed dispersal and "Which Animal Am I?", students explored plant ecology, wildlife identification, and the relationships that hold ecosystems together, all without a single textbook in sight. We also walked through key conservation modules, giving learners a foundation they can carry back into their classrooms and communities.

This work is made possible by the support of and .community , partners who believe in the power of community-rooted conservation education.

When education feels like play, curiosity does the heavy lifting.

Conversations about wildlife conservation don’t only happen in parks, they start in classrooms.

This week we’ve been engaging students on wildlife protection, coexistence, and how young people can take action for nature.

One of our biggest learnings this week: students engage deeply when conservation education is practical, creative, and connected to their daily lives.
By supporting schools to lead environmental activities themselves, we help create ownership, and that’s where impact lasts.

This week, our school outreaches at Airstrip Primary School and Mureru Primary School focused on guiding learners and teachers on how to participate in the 2026 AFEW Kenya – Giraffe Centre Environmental Awareness Essay Writing Competition.

Through interactive sessions, students were introduced to the competition theme and encouraged to reflect on conservation partnerships for a healthy planet and people. These discussions help learners connect classroom learning to real-world environmental action.

We also distributed Environmental Days Calendars designed and developed by Laikipia Wildlife Forum. The calendars support environmental clubs and students to celebrate and commemorate key days tied to conservation throughout the year.

Supporting schools to engage in platforms that amplify youth voices remains a core part of strengthening conservation education.

Environmental education starts in the classroom, and EcoPhilia Kenya is proud to be nurturing the next generation of environmental champions across Nyeri and Laikipia.

Through our school outreach programmes and Eco Club initiatives, learners engage in conversations on climate change, conservation, and community responsibility. They take part in hands-on activities like planting, recycling, and community projects, turning lessons into action.
Together, we are empowering students to lead positive change in their schools and communities. Every conversation, project, and idea brings us closer to a sustainable future.

At EcoPhilia Kenya, we believe real sustainability comes from building people, not running short project cycles. Funding will eventually end, but teachers remain in the classroom every day guiding how learners understand and interact with their environment.

This is why teacher capacity building is a central part of our conservation education work. When teachers are equipped with the right knowledge, confidence and practical tools, they can run vibrant Eco Clubs and keep environmental learning alive throughout the year. They become the anchors of long-term conservation culture in schools.

Through our training approach, teachers are empowered to guide learners in tree growing, environmental audits, clean-up activities, creative climate storytelling, debates and other student-led actions that nurture leadership and environmental responsibility.

For EcoPhilia, this is sustainability in its most practical form.
