Constructive dialogue and strong partnerships are key to advancing the rights and development of pastoralist, minority, and marginalized communities.
PPI appreciates the warm reception and productive discussions on issues affecting the Rendille community and other marginalized groups. We look forward to continued collaboration in promoting inclusion, equity, and community empowerment as we work together towards a more inclusive Kenya.

From years of silence to a moment where these voices are finally being echoed where it matters most. What was carried in silence for years is now being spoken in a courtroom.
Today at Isiolo Law Courts, the Environmental Injustice case for our communities in Kargi and North Horr stands as a turning point, where long-held suffering meets recognition, and where the pursuit of justice continues with quiet but firm resolve, without losing momentum.

Over 100 elders from the Rendille community across Laisamis and Saku came together in a two-day training and dialogue organized by Pastoralist Peoples Initiative (PPI), bringing together elders, professionals, and youth to address one key issue - peace in Marsabit County.
The conversations focused on promoting unity, coexistence, and moving away from cycles of conflict that have affected the community for years. There was a strong call to normalize peace, strengthen harmony, and create a safer future for all.

As a powerful outcome of this engagement, the elders also made a collective commitment to support community-led initiatives that empower women and youth including the allocation of a 50-acre parcel of land to support these efforts.A community committee made up of women, men, and youth was also democratically selected by the people to guide and oversee these initiatives.

Peace is not just a conversation, it is a responsibility we all share.

Pastoralist women are the backbone of our rangelands, sustaining livelihoods through knowledge, care, and resilience yet too often left out of decision-making. Their voices and leadership are essential to the future of pastoralism.

Pastoralist Peoples Initiative (PPI) is proud to be participating in the African Pastoralist Women Gathering (APWG 2026) in Kampala, Uganda, contributing to a continent-wide dialogue on the future of rangelands and the critical role of pastoralist women in shaping it.

In pastoralist societies, women are at the center of sustaining livelihoods, with rich knowledge of land management, livestock systems, and climate adaptation. Despite this, their perspectives are still largely missing from policy and decision-making spaces on land and climate.

Through its presence at APWG 2026, PPI is engaging in efforts to elevate these voices and push for more inclusive, community-rooted solutions.

This International Women’s Day, Pastoralist Peoples’ Initiative (PPI) proudly celebrates Indigenous women and all women whose strength, leadership, and resilience continue to shape our communities.

Our work remains rooted in amplifying the voices of pastoralist and Indigenous women and advancing equality and dignity for all.

We were honored to join women from different counties in Kajiado to mark the day, courtesy of Paraan KE and Nasaru Women.

In collaboration with Paraan KE, we came together in Isiolo with CSOs and community representatives from Marsabit County to share experiences and strengthen our collaboration on matters affecting our people.

After the meeting, we visited Kargi & Kalacha, hearing from the community about the effects of environmental injustice on their land. Each story reminded us why community voices matter and why standing together, listening, learning, and supporting one another is so important. Together, we can help build the future this community deserves.
