The HUGAFO-K AGM 2026 was a beautiful and powerful moment of unity, culture, and shared purpose ❤️
Communities traveled from across Kenya to come together—not just to meet, but to stand as one voice for their rights, recognition, and future.
And truly, one message stood out:

“Nothing for us, without us.”

We are incredibly grateful to all our member communities and organizations who made this AGM meaningful and successful:
Ogiek (Mau & Mt. Elgon), Sengwer, Yaaku, Aweer (Boni), Waayu, El Molo, Lmartins Peoples Association, Shulmai Management Conservancy, and all HUGAFO-K members 🙏

Hunter Gatherer communities are not asking for charity, but for recognition, dignity, and inclusion in decisions that affect their land, livelihoods, and future.
From land rights to economic empowerment, the voices of indigenous communities must not only be heard, but meaningfully engaged. Sustainable development cannot be achieved without acknowledging their knowledge systems, protecting their rights, and creating space for them at decision-making tables.
As we continue advancing community-led initiatives through platforms such as HUGAFO-K, it is clear that collective advocacy, partnerships, and policy engagement remain key.

The journey continues—but so does the commitment to ensure that no community is left behind.

HUGAFO-K Fact-Finding Visit to Chepkitale
We recently visited the Ogiek community of Chepkitale as part of our fact-finding initiative, where we had the honor of engaging with incredible Indigenous women and listening to their lived experiences.
The women shared how they continue to survive and support their families despite ongoing land tenure insecurities. Their ancestral land was converted into a game reserve, and although they won a case affirming their rights, its implementation is yet to be realized.
Hugafo-K standa in solidarity with the Ogiek of Chepkitale.
