Kenya Wildlife Service Director General was before the Senate committee to shade light on issues of illegal fishing and the health safety of fish from Lake Nakuru.

The fish from Lake Nakuru have been scientifically tested and confirmed to be toxic. The toxicity of Lake Nakuru's fish emanate from the nearby sewage that has direct contact with the lake due to the lake's flooding, overflowing its historical banks due to climate change, destruction of the upper catchment areas and siltation. This poses a serious public health risk because the local community could be consuming toxic fish unaware of the serious health risks attached to it.
The research results indicate that the fish from Lake Nakuru contain huge amounts of Lead, Mercury and other dangerous heavy metals which if ingested could cause Cancer, Diabetes, Liver and Heart failure, Birth defects and other long-term health problems.
These toxic elements are ingested by the fish.
We continue to urge the local community to remain vigilant and resist any attempt or influence that may lure them into engaging in illegal fishing from Lake Nakuru.
As a local organisation, we continue to ensure more engagements with the local community on this matter through education and awareness on illegal fishing, illegal park entry to ensure safety and mutual beneficial relationships between the surrounding community and the park management.

Our approach to conserving Lake Nakuru national park ecosystem as a critical local resource is community - centered and mutually beneficial.

🌍 WORLD METEOROLOGICAL DAY — MARCH 23 🌦️

Ever complained that “weather imeharibika leo”?
Well… today is the perfect day to understand why 😉

Today we celebrate World Meteorological Day, a day that reminds us that weather is not just small talk—it’s life itself.

From the rains that feed our crops 🌱
To the winds that shape our climate 🌬️
To the forecasts that warn us before disaster strikes ⚠️

All of it is made possible by the science of weather—and the experts behind it, led globally by the World Meteorological Organization.

🇰🇪 Why it matters to us in Kenya:
• Farmers depend on accurate rainfall predictions
• Floods and droughts can be anticipated and managed
• Aviation, tourism, and wildlife conservation rely on weather data
• Your daily plans? Yes—even that outfit choice 😄

🌡️ Reality check:
Climate change is making weather more unpredictable.
Hotter days. Irregular rains. Stronger storms.

👉 Meaning? Understanding weather isn’t optional anymore—it’s power.

💡 Simple takeaway:
Next time you check the forecast, remember—
you’re not just checking the weather…
you’re tapping into science that protects lives.

📢 Today’s message:
Respect nature. Stay informed. Adapt smart.
