Exciting News for Dundori Residents!

We're thrilled to announce that the County Government of Nakuru has officially handed over the project site for the Dundori Ward project under the Financing Locally-Led Climate Change Action (FLLoCCA) initiative!

What does this project entail?

- Restoration of Mai Mahiu water intake
- 2.5 km extension of pipeline
- Rehabilitation of 3 km Mereroni River
- Planting assorted indigenous and fruit trees

Benefits for our community:

- Enhanced access to clean and safe water
- Environmental conservation through tree planting and river rehabilitation
- Alternative source of food from fruit trees

A big thank you to:

- Governor Susan Kihika for her leadership and commitment to improving the lives of Nakuru residents

Today the Dundori Ward Climate Change Planning Committee led by the chairperson Mr. Simon Ndung'u and Subcounty Environment officer Mr. Ephraim Nginyo hosted the Nakuru County Climate Change Unit (CCCU) in Dundori ward.

The aim of the visit was to carry out an environmental and Social Risk management screening for CCRI proposal - under FLLOCA - for Dundori Ward titled_ Restoration of Mbaruk-Mereroni River which runs across Dundori ward.

Nakuru County Governor H.E Susan Kihika has appealed to the Nakuru County Assembly Members (MCAs) to advocate for allocation of not less than 2.5% of the total development budget to go towards Climate Change actions.

Speaking when she met the County Climate Change Steering Committee, County Climate Change Planning Committee and Ward Climate
Change Planning Committees at Nyayo Gardens, the Governor said, the County Government, allocated sh88 million for Climate Change mitigation in this financial which is insufficient.

And to ensure accountability, transparency, and a unified approach, Governor Kihika said the County has established a Climate Change Unit. This unit will work tirelessly to monitor progress, set realistic targets, and enact policies that prioritize environmental conservation and protection.

The Governor further revealed that the County Government will actively engage with the local, national, regional, and global community to forge partnerships and agreements that transcend borders to reduce carbon emissions, protect ecosystems, and promote sustainable development.

The Governor was accompanied by the Deputy Governor H.E David Kones, Chief of Staff Dr. Peter Ketyenya, CECMs Dr. Nelson Maara (Environment), Stephen Kuria (Trade), Leonard Bor (Agriculture), Chief officers, Kennedy Mungai (Climate Change),
Edward Gitau (Public Participation), Rosemary Kimani (Tourism & Culture) and Nakuru County Assembly Committee members for Environment led by Hon Rose Mutai among other county officials.
