Background to the Chamber
The Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry is a NON-PROFIT autonomous, private sector institution and membership based organization. It
was established in 1965 from the amalgamation of the then three existing Chambers of Commerce: the Asian, African and European Chambers, to protect and develop the interests of business community in Kenya. Nakuru County Chamber works in close collaboration with both Nakuru county and national Government, stakeholders and business development organizations nationally and internationally. It is an affiliate member of the international Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICC), Pan African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PACCI), East African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (EACCI) and the East African Business Council (EABC) among others. The Chamber provides many valuable benefits:
a) Advocacy Services
The Chamber lobbies for the formulation of policies that support business development and for the repeal of those that adversely affect business operations. It also lobbies for the establishment and maintenance of business friendly infrastructures and tax regimes such as V.A.T and Single Business Permits. b) Internal Trade Promotion
The Chamber promotes trade by campaigning for business friendly economic measures and negotiates for measures that promote free exchange of products and services. c) Inbound and Outbound Trade Delegations
The Chamber organizes partnership and joint venture meetings between Kenyan entrepreneurs and inbound business delegations. It also coordinates outgoing trade delegations and missions thus ensuring maximum exploitation of business opportunities. d) Export Promotion Activities
The Chamber identifies export market opportunities for Kenyan products and creates opportunities for its members to participate in foreign trade missions, trade fairs and exhibitions. e) Trade Information Services
The Chamber disseminates up-to-date information on all markets, tariffs, shipping information and documentation to members. From the Chamber, you can access trade and investment promotion agencies world wide. f) Diplomatic Representation
The Chamber acts as a medium of communication between commercial sections of foreign embassies in Kenya and the business community. g) Education Training
Through seminars and workshops, members acquire business skills such as export marketing, record keeping, preparing business proposals, finance sourcing, rights and obligations of traders. h) Business Forums
Members participate in business forums where matters affecting their operations are discussed, resolutions passed and actions taken to put right and wrongs. It is at these forums, for instance, that the new government policies and their effect on business operations are discussed. i) Certificate Of Origin (COO)
As it is the practice with the Chambers of Commerce globally, the Chamber issues certificates of origin for Kenyan Exporters. j) Memoranda Of Understanding
The Chamber has signed Memoranda of understanding with Chambers of Commerce and trade organizations around the world with the aim of fostering trade, commercial and industrial development. k) Multilateral, Bilateral And Regional Integration
The Chamber participates in formulation of policies and agreements or trade and economic agreements with EAC, COMESA, WTO and ACP- EU among others. l) Partnership Opportunities

Who can be a member
Membership to the Chamber Is open to all individuals, registered businesses of all sizes in private and public sectors, whether locally or internationally incorporated. You may also join as a friend of the Chamber, most appropriate for government agencies, Parastatals, NGOs, Civil Societies, Non Profit Organizations, and Embassies among others.
