The pre-conference dinner of the African Conference for Catholic Sisters Canon and Civil Lawyers was enriched by inspiring remarks from Rev. Msgr. Luciano Labanca, Chargé d'Affaires a.i. of the Apostolic Nunciature, Sr. Grace Komugisha, President of ACWECA, and Sr. Jane Wakahiu, LSOSF, Ph.D., Associate Vice President, Catholic Sisters Initiative at the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation.

Speaking to more than 50 Catholic Sisters lawyers from across Africa, they celebrated this historic conference as the first of its kind on the continent and encouraged the Sisters to continue being prophetic witnesses through their ministry in canon and civil law for the common good of the Church.

Wednesday 29th July 2026 , CASILEP Board Members had a privellege to host a delegation from the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors led by Bishop Manuel Luis Herrera, the Commission Secreatary. Among the key discussions was stregthening partnership between CASILEP Kenya and the Comission. This meeting was held prior to the African Conference for Catholic Sisters Canon and Civil Lawyers.

The African Conference for Catholic Sisters Canon and Civil Lawyers officially commenced with a Holy Mass at Donum Dei, Nairobi, Kenya.

The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Bishop David Kamau, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Nairobi, and concelebrated with Bishop Luis Manuel Herrera, Secretary of the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors.

The opening Mass marked the beginning of a grace-filled gathering of Catholic Sisters from across Africa as they come together to learn, connect, and strengthen their prophetic witness in canon and civil law matters.
