PSI and Prospect Peace Institute Africa team recently connected with the Kamukunji Community Empowerment Initiative for open, honest conversations about the real issues shaping daily life in the community. Key concerns raised included gang activity, drug and substance abuse, gaps in governance, and the specific challenges faced by marginalized groups — especially persons living with disabilities and the elderly.

These kinds of grounded engagements are essential. They ensure our peacebuilding and development work truly reflects lived realities on the ground. We’re optimistic that this meeting is just the beginning of a meaningful, long-term partnership — one built on inclusive approaches and real, sustainable progress. Together with communities, lasting change starts here.

Today, Peaceful Societies Initiative (PSI) and Prospect Peace Institute Africa (PPI-A) formalized a strategic partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Amani Milele.
Amani Milele advances peace through agriculture by utilizing community land to cultivate fodder and crops during rainy seasons — strengthening livelihoods while fostering social cohesion.
However, their work is carried out within complex realities, including communal conflict, water scarcity, crop destruction by wildlife, and the need for strengthened institutional capacity.
This partnership marks a commitment to collaborative peacebuilding — integrating agriculture, conflict sensitivity, capacity building, and sustainable community development.
Together, we look forward to building resilient communities where peace and productivity grow side by side.

The panel discussion during the Marsabit Youth Convention 2026 focused on youth inclusion in governance, advocacy, collaboration, resource allocation by the county government, and the elimination of drug abuse through community-led efforts.
Our Programs Officer, Lavin Atieno, showcased how CSOs and NGOs like Peaceful Societies Initiative (PSI) play a critical role in translating policy into action — through capacity building, institutionalizing youth forums and agendas, and establishing credible youth policies and data hubs that strengthen governance and development outcomes.
PSI remains committed to supporting structured, evidence-driven, and community-focused approaches that empower youth to shape sustainable change.

The high-level session with H.E. the Governor at the Marsabit Youth Convention 2026 has concluded.

In his address, the Governor highlighted key county-led initiatives, including scholarship opportunities and the Vocational Training Centre (VTC) programme, which have collectively benefited over 10,000 students across Marsabit County.

He encouraged young people not to give up on their aspirations, reminding them that with access to opportunity, resilience, and commitment, they can achieve their goals.

As Peaceful Societies Initiative (PSI), we value these engagements that connect youth priorities with actionable county programmes and institutional support.

The energy, unity, and pure joy on display were truly inspiring. Seeing youth from diverse backgrounds come together on the pitch reminded us why we do this work: sport builds bridges, empowers young leaders, and plants seeds for lasting peace in northern Kenya.

A special shoutout again to our incredible partners at Jahazi Foundation and all collaborators, the dedicated volunteers, passionate players, and supportive community members who made this tournament a success. Your commitment turns vision into reality. The matches may be over, but the conversations, friendships, and hope sparked continue. Let's keep the momentum going—peace through sport is a movement!

Peaceful Societies Initiative (PSI) is proud to have sponsored the Mt. Kulal Community Football League in Marsabit County, Kenya, in partnership with Jahazi Foundation, Prospect Peace Institute - Africa and other dedicated collaborators!

Through the power of sport, this initiative brought together youth and communities from the Mt. Kulal area to foster unity, dialogue, and lasting peace. Football isn't just a game—it's a bridge for social cohesion, youth empowerment, and conflict prevention in regions where it matters most. A huge thank you to our partners, participants, volunteers, and everyone who made this possible.

Together, we're building more peaceful and inclusive societies, one goal at a time.
