Every drop tells a story.

There is something profoundly transformative about reducing the distance people in rural communities must travel to access water.

For years, Sarah, a resident of Kanduyi' Pombo Tano area in Kenya, made the long journey to collect water for her household. The area earned its name from the five pipes that emerged from the spring, supplying what seemed like an endless source of water. Yet for her, the reality was different. The walk was exhausting, and carrying a heavy jerrican on her head day after day took a physical toll.

For decades, the water flow remained reliable. Today, however, the situation has changed. Water volumes have steadily declined, making it increasingly difficult to meet the growing needs of the community.

Sarah's story is just one drop in a vast ocean of untold experiences. Across East Africa, countless individuals and communities face similar challenges every day. By sharing these stories, we amplify local voices, raise awareness, and inspire practical solutions to the water challenges affecting our communities.

At EAWA, we believe that every story matters and every voice can contribute to creating a more water-secure future.

Stay tuned as we continue to uncover and share inspiring water stories from across East Africa.

How many bags of soap would it take to cleanse the Nairobi River?

Or perhaps the better questions are:

How many tonnes of waste must be removed?

Which policies works for water sources?

How many people are needed to restore and protect it?

What skills are required from scientists and engineers to community mobilizers and storytellers?

What data do we need to understand the sources of pollution and track progress?

How much clean water is needed to revive its ecosystems?

And how many worries, concerns, and conversations must we turn into action?

The restoration of Nairobi River is not a matter of soap and water. It is a matter of knowledge, collective responsibility, evidence-based decision-making, and sustained commitment.

Every piece of data collected, every story shared, every community engaged, and every action taken brings us one step closer to a cleaner and healthier river.

The real question is not how much soap is needed to clean the river, but how many of us are willing to be part of the solution.

Because rivers are not cleansed by soap they are restored by people, knowledge, and action.

Like, share, comment and follow.

How many bags of soap are needed to cleanse the Nairobi River?

Or how many worries?

Or how many tonnes of waste?

Or how many people and how much manpower?

Which skills are needed?

Which data must be collected and shared?

Or how much water will it take?

What will it really take to restore the Nairobi River?

Someone asked us the other day, why did you start with Storytelling? You could also be wondering the same thing. We are here to answer all your questions keep them coming in the comment section.

Here is why.

Storytelling is the first door to the opening of a project. All projects should start with it. It gives the understanding of the project, shifts it in the right directions and helps researchers and professionals to realign their plans and reset the next steps. It unveils the solution that we would have overlooked.

It helps community to rewrite the solution being excepted by the their people. It helps in avoiding to implementing solutions that are not urgent, (Like build toilets with the aim of sanitation, for people who urgently need sustainable water. A perfect project but poor timings.)

As a storyteller or a student or profession in all fields, research, Water, Food chain, Marine, and so on.

What story have you been desiring to share we are eager to receive them any day, any hour, our TYWSC portal is ever open for you.

If you were to dream about water availability and not just availability but quality according to standard (Water quality standards are the physical, chemical, biological, and radiological characteristics that determine whether water is safe and suitable for a specific use, such as drinking, agriculture, industry, recreation, or ecosystem protection.

According to the World Health Organization and the United Nations, safe drinking water should be free from harmful microorganisms and hazardous chemicals while being aesthetically acceptable in terms of taste, odor, and appearance.)
