Today, on International Day for Care and Support 2025, we convened at the KICC, Nairobi, united by one powerful intention, to make care work count. Under this year’s theme, we reaffirm our commitment through the Time to Care Project, which aims to advance gender equality and strengthen care infrastructure for women and girls across Kenya.

The event was graced by Cabinet Secretary for Gender, Hon. Hannah Wendot Cheptumo, whose presence reaffirmed the national commitment to recognizing, reducing, and redistributing unpaid care and domestic work.

Together, we’re shaping a future where care is valued, shared, and supported, because care work is the backbone of our societies.

The abolition of the Kafala system marks a powerful step toward justice, dignity, and freedom for millions of migrant workers who have endured decades of exploitation and abuse.

For over 50 years, the Kafala system bound workers, especially domestic workers, to their employers, denying them basic rights and freedom of movement. Its end signals a new era of respect, fairness, and protection for all workers.

At the Centre for Domestic Training and Development (CDTD), we celebrate this milestone as it aligns strongly with our Labour Migration Pillar, which promotes safe, fair, and dignified migration pathways for domestic workers. Through training, rights awareness, and reintegration support, CDTD continues to stand for decent work and justice for all.

This is more than a policy change, it’s a human triumph.
When systems of injustice fall, freedom and dignity rise.
