"Bringing Hope on Wheels: Good Friends of Maasai Community Foundation-Kenya (GFMCF-K)
Chair the Love, a non-profit organization from the USA in partnership with Good Friends of Maasai Community Foundation–Kenya (GFMCF-K) brought smiles to people with disabilities in Baringo by donating Wheelchairs.
Speaking at the county social hall in Kabarnet town after handing over to them the 80 wheelchairs, the President of GFMCF-K and a Board member of Chair the Love, emphasized the importance of assisting people who have mobility challenges to live a dignified life like any other normal person by giving them assistive devices.
They stated that a single wheelchair can transform a life of a person both physically and emotionally since they will be able to move from one point to the other with or without being assisted.
“Our donation today will not only enhance physical mobility but also strengthen family ties, increase social engagement, promote freedom, dignity and renewed hope.’’ Says Augie Byllott.
President of GFMCF-K appealed to well wishers and other charitable organizations or humanitarian agencies to support them in pursuing this noble course of assisting people living with disabilities get assistive devices citing that more than one million Kenyans whom 7,000 in Baringo county are in need of wheelchairs.
The organization has so far reached eight counties, including Kisumu, Nandi, and Uasin Gishu, among others and expressed their commitment to working with the county governments to distribute more wheelchairs.
However, they lamented that many persons with disabilities especially children are un-accounted for due to stigma thus many families particularly pastoralist communities hide them.
They called upon these families to shun the stigma, come forward and register these children living with disabilities since the government and other organizations like them are ready to support live a normal life.
