Mobility is not a charity but a right. It is directly connected to education, employment, dignity, and equality. When schools, workplaces, transport, and public spaces remain inaccessible, the rights we speak about become theoretical instead of lived realities. Today on International Wheelchair Day, we choose to look beyond symbolism and address the systems that shape access and opportunity. The RKB Foundation calls for intentional, structured, and sustainable inclusion where mobility is protected as a right and accessibility is treated as a standard and not just as an afterthought.

We are excited to officially welcome you to The RKB Foundation. We are a disability inclusion organisation committed to advancing equitable opportunities and accessible systems for persons with disabilities across Kenya. We strive to build a society where persons with disabilities participate fully and equally in education, employment, governance, and community life.

We are glad to have attended the
the disability inclusion launch in SA. The event titled “Audio Description in Africa Symposium 2025” (sometimes “AD in Africa Symposium”) took place October 13-14, 2025 at the Elangeni Hotel, Southern Sun, in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.

It was an inaugural event “the first” of its kind in Africa .
The purpose of the symposium was to gather pioneers, practitioners, policymakers, and end‐users of audio description to push forward its growth across Africa.

Key thematic areas included: professionalization of audio description, technology & tools (including innovation, AI), policy & standards, education & training. Also cross‐sectoral areas like film, tourism, arts, and learning.

The a programme covered keynote speeches, panel discussions (e.g. AD in Film & Tourism, Technology and AI), interactive workshops, end‐user presentations & feedback, and a policy & standards roundtable.

There was also emphasis on establishing AD in Africa.

The event majorly targeted persons with visual impairment and how well their needs should be addressed.

The symposium was a strong starting point for:

1. Raising awareness and visibility of audio description (AD) in Africa, especially in media, film, arts, tourism. Having stakeholders together is valuable.

2. Networking & collaboration: bringing together practitioners, technologists, policymakers, and end users creates potential for partnerships, shared best practices.

3. Setting agendas: by emphasizing tech / AI, policy, standardization, education, the symposium is pushing for more than just discussion — aiming for structural change.
4. Sustainability depends on what follow-ups happen: setting standards, funding, implementing training, incorporating AD into regulation and in public institutions/media.

We are glad that the RKB Disability Foundation managed to be part of this initiative.
