On Wednesday, 9th July 2025, the Kenya NPO Working Group came together to validate its FATF Strategy for 2025–2028, line by line, voice by voice. At the heart of the meeting was also a review of the Draft Regulations, 2025; with the aim of refining recommendations ahead of the public participation session set for July 18 in Nairobi.

In the end, the Working Group, alongside the CT Steering Committee, put their heads, and pens, together to craft a joint memorandum. It’s this collective voice we will carry to PBORA.

The Public Participation sessions on the Draft Public Benefit Organizations (PBO) Regulations, 2025 are ongoing.
This is your opportunity to shape how PBOs will be registered, regulated, and protected under the PBO Act. Let’s amplify the voices of PBOs and ensure the law reflects our realities.
Please share widely and encourage participation across the sector.

On June 19, 2025, the Kenya NPO Working Group on the Financial Action Taskforce hosted its first-ever "Talk to Your Regulator" dialogue series. And true to its name, it brought together voices that don’t often meet in one room, but should.

At the heart of the conversation was how Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) measures are impacting how non-profits engage with government agencies, financial institutions, and development partners.

We heard from Bernedette Nzomo of PBORA, David Nyamato from NCBA Bank, and Joshua Changwony of CRECO, and each of them offered insights, challenges, and a few tough truths.

The goal of the convention was to chart a path forward, one led by civil society to reduce the harm caused by the misuse of AML/CFT laws, while also seizing the moment to expand and protect our civic space.
