Pitch a Dream Organisation Pitch a Dream Organisation aims to cultivate a reading culture in rural communities through the donation of storybooks and a one year mentorship program.

This is a non-profit, voluntary organization formed with the goal of acquiring and distributing story books to children in various institutions while engaging them in mentorship and art... We have so far worked in Nairobi County, Murang'a County and Uasin Gishu County where we interacted with the children in various primary schools. To fund our program we hold the Pitch a Dream Football Tournament

where we bring together sport enthusiasts to compete in games such as a five-aside football tournament, basketball, touch rugby as well as other games. The purpose of the tournament is to fundraise and we therefore charge an entrance fee. We have so far held 3 such successful tournaments and we look forward to many more.

Join us for a reading and Q&A session with superstar next Thursday at the !

Makena Onjerika won the 2018 Caine Prize for African Writing and was shortlisted for the 2020 Bristol Prize and the 2022 NOMMO Award for Short Fiction. In 2024, she was invited to attend the Oxbelly Writing Retreat in Greece and was a finalist for the Flowers Fellowship to attend the Disquiet Literary Program in Portugal. Her fiction has appeared on Granta.com and in the Johannesburg Review of Books, Wasafari, Black Warrior Review among others. She is working on a novel-in-short-stories that blends the real and the speculative. An ADHDer, Makena earns her living in qualitative market research.

We are deeply grateful for supporting our initiatives. This past Saturday was a truly wonderful day at Umbrella Children’s Home. In partnership with@schonmk we inspired the children through a mentorship session, fun activities, food/cloth donations, and six volunteers join us.
