Co-creation is at the heart of sustainable development. Today's discussions brought together I Grow Africa Centre (IGAC), the Department of Agriculture, and Kaimosi Special School to jointly envision a Permaculture Learning Hub—a space that will not only produce food but also serve as a living classroom where students, farmers, and the wider community can learn practical, climate-smart, and sustainable agriculture. These photos tell a story that goes beyond a project.

Through the KCDF –IGAC Matching Grant in Vihiga County, one self-help group mobilized its full community contribution well ahead of schedule. They also contributed local materials and invested in a water tank—clear evidence that lasting change begins when communities invest in their own future.

This is the essence of community philanthropy: people giving what they have—time, resources, skills, and commitment—to build the future they want.

At IGAC, we believe sustainable development is strongest when communities are not just beneficiaries, but co-investors and leaders of change.

Because the most sustainable solutions are built with communities, not for them.

Restoration happens when we work together.

Yesterday, IGAC participated in discussions convened by the Catholic Justice and Peace Department (CJPD) on the upcoming Maragoli Hills Ecosystem Restoration Conference 2026. We appreciate CJPD's leadership in bringing together diverse stakeholders to advance environmental stewardship and community-led restoration.

As we prepare for this important gathering, we are reminded that:

"Restoration is not the responsibility of one institution—it is a collective journey that requires communities, faith organizations, government, and development partners working together."

Together, we can restore ecosystems, strengthen resilience, and build a sustainable future for generations to come.

It looks like communities designing solutions for their own challenges. It looks like systems being strengthened for long-term scale. And it looks like honest conversations around growth, sustainability, and resilience.

Honored to host during an organizational assessment and field validation visit under our Nature-Based Solutions initiative.

Last week, IGAC participated in the county agricultural cooperatives meeting convened by the Department of Agriculture, Livestock & Fisheries, aimed at strengthening stakeholder synergy and enhancing support to farmers in Vihiga County.

This is where it begins
We’ve officially kicked off the journey to establish Permaculture Learning Hubs in special schools across Vihiga County
Starting with Kaimosi Special School as our pilot—co-creating a space where learners grow food, skills, and dignity.
What makes this different?
It’s locally driven—built through community effort, trust, and partnerships, with Bank (Mbale Branch) supporting the project with tree seedlings.

This has been made possible by the capacity, mindset shift, and approach to local resource mobilization strengthened through and Change the Game Academy 🙌🏽
