At the heart of API’s philosophy is Ubuntu; I am because we are.
Peace begins when human dignity is restored.

That means:
- Protecting civilians
- Strengthening local economies
- Building regional trust and cooperation

True peace is not just the absence of war — it’s the presence of justice, livelihoods, and hope.

The Africa Peace Initiative (API) is sounding the alarm.

We urge governments, regional bodies, and partners to:
- Consolidate all existing peace agreements into one coherent, verifiable framework.
- Prioritize the protection of civilians in conflict zones.
- Ensure transparency in justice and negotiations.
- Involve civil society and youth at every stage.

Peace is not achieved by signing; it’s achieved by sincerity and inclusion.

Why do peace agreements in the DRC keep failing?
Because the voices that matter most; local communities, women, youth, traditional leaders are often missing from the table. Fragmented and competing processes. Some countries have created confusion instead of cohesion. Lasting peace demands unity, inclusion, and trust. No more parallel tracks. No more top-down solutions.

Two months after the signing of the Washington Peace Agreement (June 27, 2025) between the DRC and Rwanda, implementation stands at only 19.1%.
The numbers speak loudly
- Only 14 of 30 tasks are partially complete.
- 7 million Congolese remain displaced.
- 65% have lost confidence in peace processes.
Peace on paper means little when people still live in fear.
The Africa Peace Initiative calls for a shift from political promises to human-centered action.

“The East African Standby Force was chased out by the same government it came to support. SADC stepped in. We can’t talk about African solutions when leaders don’t respect themselves.” Eric Mikalano

“For peace in the region, good economic deals must be made. If Congo and Rwanda share interests fairly, it will be much easier for them to work together; because they share the same interests.” Mick Mutiki, API Dialogue.
