Our CEO, Mr. Wagurah, attended the launch of the National Horticulture Traceability System (NHTS), a significant step towards enhancing traceability, transparency and efficiency within Kenya's horticulture sector.

The system brings together key AFA-HCD services on a single platform, including export licensing, export permits, inspection requests and the registration of marketing agents, while integrating eCitizen for online payments.

A key feature of the system is the registration of farmers and suppliers, enabling produce to be traced from the farm through the value chain to the export market.

The launch provided stakeholders with an opportunity to engage with the system and better understand its implications for compliance, traceability and the future of horticultural exports in Kenya.

Between 16th and 25th May, AEAK, represented by Mr. Wagurah, participated in the Value Chains for Jobs programme, a World Bank initiative.

At the centre of the programme is a practical question: how do local value chains translate into decent, sustainable employment?

The discussions focused on strengthening production systems, improving coordination across actors in the chain and supporting the growth of small and medium enterprises.

In agriculture, this takes shape through stronger market linkages for farmers, improved skills development along the value chain and expanded opportunities for youth and women.

For the avocado sector, the conversation is especially relevant from production and aggregation to processing and export readiness, where structure, efficiency and coordination determine how value is created and shared.

Through Mr. Wagurah’s participation, AEAK contributed sector-level insights into Kenya’s avocado value chain, highlighting opportunities that can unlock greater employment, productivity and value addition.

KRA will hold a virtual stakeholder engagement with the export sector to discuss the recent enhancement on ICMS relating to the integration of exports with the VAT return in iTax.

The session will provide stakeholders with an opportunity to seek clarification and address any arising concerns regarding the enhancement.

Our CEO, Mr. Wagurah, participated in a meeting hosted by Global Compact Network Kenya on Tuesday, 5 March 2026 at Mövenpick Hotel & Residences Nairobi.

Held under the theme “How the Sector is Responding to Responsible Business Expectations,” the meeting brought together stakeholders to discuss sustainability, ethical business practices and the future of supply chains within agribusiness.

The discussions highlighted the growing importance of resilience, accountability and sustainability across agricultural value chains.

Update: Port of Salalah Operations

Maersk has announced the gradual resumption of operations at the Port of Salalah effective 31st March 2026, following the recent security incident.

While operations are expected to normalize in phases, some constraints may persist temporarily.

Stakeholders are encouraged to stay informed and plan accordingly.

Official Notice: Opening of the 2025/2026 Avocado Export Season

The Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA) has announced the official opening of avocado harvesting for export by sea shipment, effective 2nd April 2026.

Key timelines:
• Packhouse inspections begin 7th April 2026
• Submission of HPMA/supplier lists due 30th March 2026
• Harvesting for oil processing opens 30th April 2026

Stakeholders are urged to comply with all regulatory requirements, including proper harvesting, handling and transportation standards.
