Today marked the beginning of a 3-day technical review of the 1st Draft of the Kiambu County Nutrition Action Plan (CNAP) 2026–2030, a critical step towards shaping a stronger, more coordinated nutrition response for the next five years.

Building on lessons from the 2020–2025 CNAP, the review is focused on strengthening the draft across its Key Result Areas, refining the implementation and costing frameworks, and ensuring a robust Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) framework.

The process will also ensure that gender equality and social inclusion, disability inclusion, youth engagement, climate resilience, sustainable food systems and safeguarding are meaningfully integrated into the plan.

This is not simply about reviewing a document. It is about strengthening a practical, costed and accountable roadmap that can translate Kiambu County’s nutrition priorities into action and measurable results.

A stronger CNAP means stronger coordination, clearer priorities and a more deliberate pathway towards better nutrition outcomes for the people of Kiambu County.

The work begins today. The ambition is a healthier, better-nourished Kiambu.

The Kiambu County Food Safety and Fortification Alliance (CFSFA) brought together key stakeholders to strengthen collaboration, coordination, and collective action towards a safer and more nutritious food system.

Food fortification is a powerful public health intervention that helps address micronutrient deficiencies by ensuring essential nutrients are added to commonly consumed foods. But fortification only delivers impact when quality, compliance, and food safety are upheld across the entire food system.

Through market surveillance and visits to millers, we had an opportunity to see practices on the ground, understand the progress being made, identify existing challenges, and explore practical ways to strengthen compliance with food safety and fortification standards.

These engagements are a reminder that strong food systems are built through partnerships, evidence, accountability, and action.

A special appreciation to Nutrition International for the partnership and continued support in advancing food fortification and strengthening food safety systems. Together, we are moving closer to a future where every consumer can access safe, nutritious, and adequately fortified food.

Day One at the Kenya Youth in Agrifood Systems Summit 2026: the conversation has begun, and young people are making sure their voices are heard.

From indigenous food knowledge and youth-led innovation to nutrition, agribusiness, land and access to productive resources, Day One brought together young people and key actors to confront the realities shaping our food systems and, more importantly, to imagine what comes next.

One message stood out from Kamau Njoroge, CEO, WingFarm Organization:

“We cannot design policies for young people without the young people.”

Because youth participation cannot be an afterthought. Young people must be in the room, at the table, and at the heart of the decisions shaping the food systems they will inherit.

This is not simply about giving youth a voice.

It is about recognizing their voice as essential to transformation.

The energy is here. The ideas are here. The leadership is here.

And Day One made one thing clear: the future of agrifood systems will not be built for young people. It will be built with them and led by them. ✊🏾
