This weekend, our learners at Mara Girls Leadership School joined our neighboring schools; Talek Comprehensive/Junior School and Talek Girls Senior School for friendly ball games i.e. football, handball, volleyball and netball. They played with passion, teamwork and excellence as they gear up for the upcoming Term 2 inter-school competitions.

Sports is not just about winning, it is about breaking barriers of tribe, culture, race and creed. It is about sisterhood, friendship, confidence and nurturing talent.

We call upon corporates, institutions and individuals to walk with us in this journey of offering quality education that nurtures talent; book by pen, ball by ball, one child at a time. Together, let’s leave no child afraid to conquer the world!!!

Empowering Women. Building Resilience. Driving Impact.

For the past 1 week we have been training 100 women across 3 clusters Nkoilale, Aitong and Olemoncho on Alternative Income Generating Activities (IGAs), equipping them to take charge of their economic future.

This training was focused on:
-Build practical skills in alternative livelihoods
-Promote income diversification beyond livestock and beadwork
-Strengthen financial inclusion through savings & group enterprises
-Support eco-friendly businesses within the Mara ecosystem
-Boost women’s leadership and entrepreneurial confidence

With the expected impact as:
-90%+ improved knowledge on IGAs
-New ventures launching (poultry, kitchen gardens, small businesses & more)
-Increased household incomes (target: +20%)
-Stronger women-led groups with better savings & accountability
-Reduced reliance on unsustainable practices

This is how change begins with knowledge, opportunity and empowered women leading the way

We call upon partners, donors and local stakeholders to collaborate in expanding access to financial services, technical support, and market opportunities for women groups. Together, we can scale sustainable livelihoods while advancing conservation goals in the Mara ecosystem.

Today we began a 1 week training for 3 clusters (Nkoilale, Aitong & Olemoncho) on 'Alternative Income Generating Activities'

We are proud to partner with women groups in the Mara ecosystem to unlock new, sustainable pathways for economic empowerment.

Through targeted capacity building, women are gaining practical skills in alternative income-generating activities from poultry farming and kitchen gardens to eco-friendly crafts and small businesses in the local markets, the service industry, value addition, dairy farming etc. These ventures are designed to complement traditional livelihoods, reduce vulnerability to climate and market shocks and create more resilient households.

We are driving:
- Skills development for sustainable enterprises.
- Greater access to savings, credit, and markets..
- Stronger leadership and group governance.
- Eco-friendly livelihoods that support conservation.

We are working towards:
- 90% of participants improving their knowledge and skills.
- Women groups launching 2–3 new ventures within six months.
- At least 20% growth in household income within one year.
- Stronger, more accountable and cohesive women groups.
- Reduced reliance on environmentally harmful practices.

This is more than economic empowerment, it’s about building confidence, expanding the engagements of these rural setting women, strengthening leadership and creating lasting change for both people and nature.

When women thrive, communities and ecosystems thrive too.

ARE YOU READY TO CREATE A LASTING IMPACT? Partner with us to empower women, scale sustainable livelihoods and drive meaningful change in the Mara ecosystem. www.basecampfoundationkenya.org

Today 19th March 2026 is International Day for Digital Learning!!

We celebrate the transformative power of digital learning in shaping futures and bridging gaps. Mara Girls Leadership School (MGLS), we are proud to stand as a model institution where digital tools are seamlessly infused into everyday teaching.

Our learners are not only taught traditional subjects but are also exposed to computer use and digital literacy, safe internet engagement, responsible social media handling, coding and programming, animation and creative digital expression.

Milestones achieved at MGLS, integration of digital equipment alongside normal teaching techniques, the girls confidently navigating technology to compete favourably with peers globally which is a growing culture of innovation, leadership and responsible digital citizenship.

We invite like-minded corporates, organizations and individuals to join hands with us in supporting and expanding access to digital learning. Together, we can empower more girls and communities to thrive in a digital-first world.

Let us make digital learning not just a privilege, but a right for every child.

Heavy rains in the Maasai Mara have caused severe flooding, washing away key bridges and leaving many roads impassable. Access to some areas has become very challenging.

Yet even in the midst of these difficulties, the resilience of the communities we work with continues to shine. Their strength and adaptability remain a constant source of inspiration.

At Basecamp Foundation Kenya, our Programs Team is taking extra precautions in the field, carefully assessing conditions to ensure everyone’s safety. Despite the challenges, they remain committed to doing their best to reach and support our partner communities.

Together, we continue to navigate these challenges with resilience, caution and determination.

Today we crowned our Tripartite field visit at Olesere community, witnessing remarkable progress across education, health, women’s empowerment and water access.
At Olesere Comprehensive School, we were welcomed by the school board members and toured the facilities. From classrooms and dormitories to a modern kitchen, the transformation made possible by BCFK and partners is inspiring. The school’s kitchen garden now supplements meals, easing the burden on parents.

We then visited the Olesere Community Hospital, built by BCFK and handed over to the county government. It now serves the community with stocked medication and deployed personnel.

At Meirurae women’s groups they showcased their success in table banking, savings, and investments. Their land purchase and rental structure generate income, with plans for further expansion.

Finally, at the Olesere CDO, we saw the advanced stages of a water project that will soon serve the wider community.
These milestones prove that when communities, partners, and institutions work together, lasting change is possible.

Join us in supporting these initiatives. Your partnership helps unlock resilience, dignity and opportunity for pastoralist communities.
