On 15 May 2026, in commemoration of the International Day of Families, Justice Nest in conjuction with Kenya Prison Services, will host the family reconnection event on International Day of Families at Lang'ata Women's Prison in partnership with Kenya Prisons Service.

The initiative seeks to bring children of incarcerated mothers to visit their mothers in prison. This will seek to restore moments of connection between mothers and their children by creating a safe and dignified space for them to interact, share a meal, play, and reconnect. At the heart of the campaign is a simple but powerful reminder that to a child, she is still mom.

The event brings together organizations and partners who believe in restorative justice, dignity, healing, and family-centered approaches within the justice system.

Justice Nest is grateful for the support and collaboration of its partners, including Zubacx Africa Group, whose people-centered technology approach prioritizes meaningful human experiences; Pesi Pesa Capital, which supports small and medium enterprises through accessible financial services; and Javans Coffee Ltd, a proudly Kenyan company championing quality coffee while supporting farmers and livelihoods across the coffee value chain.

Additional support has been provided by Powercom Limited, a leader in energy and telecommunications infrastructure; Wangu Kanja Foundation, which works to restore dignity and support healing for survivors of sexual violence and their families; and Indomie Kenya, whose contribution supports the wellbeing and experience of participating families.

Justice Nest also appreciates the partnership of MASH foundation trust, Luxe and Allure Events, and PILLAR AUDIO VISUAL SERVICES, whose support is helping create a welcoming and memorable environment for children and mothers during the event.

The initiative is further strengthened by Irvine's Group, whose long-standing commitment to communities across Africa continues to create opportunities and support livelihoods, and The Nairobi West Hospital, whose commitment to accessible and compassionate healthcare reflects the importance of dignity and care for all.

Through this collective effort, Justice Nest and its partners hope to remind families that connection, love, and belonging can still exist even in spaces marked by separation.

The organization welcomes additional partners, volunteers, and supporters to join in making the event meaningful for every child and mother involved.

On 15 May 2026, as we mark the International Day of Families, Justice Nest is transforming a space of separation into one of connection, dignity, and hope.

Through the campaign, we are creating a moment where children can simply be with their mothers, to a child, a mother is not an inmate, she is mom.

This work is made possible by partners who believe in people-centered solutions and community impact:

We are grateful to ZubaCX, whose customer-centric approach focuses on designing technology solutions that respond to real human needs, working closely with clients to create meaningful and responsive systems.

We also appreciate Pesi Pesa Capital Kenya, a microfinance provider dedicated to supporting small and medium enterprises with accessible financial services, helping bridge gaps for those often excluded from traditional systems.

As neighbours and partners, their support reflects a shared belief that systems, whether legal, technological, or financial, should work for people.

We invite more organizations and individuals to support. Your support helps create moments of connection that every child deserves. Click here: www.justicenest.org/donate

At Justice Nest, we continue to witness a powerful truth: justice is not only about courts and punishment. It can also look like healing, reconciliation, and second chances.

This month’s newsletter shares how our mediation work inside prisons is helping mothers reconnect with families, neighbours resolve conflict, and women return home with dignity. In April alone, 11 of 16 mothers released from Shimo la Tewa Women Prison secured their freedom through mediation. Behind every number is a restored relationship and renewed hope.

We are proud to be building a justice system that restores lives, strengthens families, and creates safer communities.

Behind every incarcerated mother is a child who still calls her “mom.”

This International Day of Families (May 15, 2026), Justice Nest is transforming Lang’ata Womens’ Prison into a playground of reunion because to a child a mother is still a mom.

Children will reunite with their mothers, sharing meals, laughter, and moments that remind them that love still exists beyond prison walls. This is not possible without your support. We are mobilizing care packages for both mothers and children, including:

🛍️ 📚 Food supplies (maize flour, rice, wheat flour, cooking oil, salt, green grams) and Stationery for children
🧼Hygiene packages for mothers

Because to a child, she is not an inmate, she is still mom. We invite you to partner with us.
👉 Support. Share. Give dignity, connection, and hope.

Stella’s story is not unique, and that is exactly the problem.

A single mother, Stella’s life was disrupted by a misunderstanding that escalated into a criminal case. Despite ensuring her child received medical care, a brief absence to inform her employer led to her arrest on allegations of neglect. She spent seven months in custody.

Like many women, Stella initially believed her situation was beyond help. Through the Justice Nest Prison Paralegal Program, she was supported to present her case, and was finally released. Her story reflects a broader reality: many mothers behind bars are not only fighting for their freedom, but for their families. Read the full story here: https://www.justicenest.org/stories-details/29

On May 15, 2026, we will mark the International Day of Families at Lang’ata Women’s Prison by creating a moment of connection, where children can visit their incarcerated mothers, share a meal, exchange care packages, and simply be together. For many, this will be the closest thing to a “visiting day” they’ve known in a long time.
