Today, on the Day of the African Child, we reaffirm our commitment to protecting the rights, dignity, and future of every child.

This day reminds us of the courage of the children of Soweto who stood up for their right to education and a better future. It also challenges us to reflect on the realities facing many African children today—violence, poverty, discrimination, limited access to education, child labour, child marriage, and inadequate protection systems.

At CELSIR, we are particularly mindful of children impacted by the criminal justice system, including children accompanying their mothers in custody, children separated from incarcerated parents, and children whose rights and opportunities are affected by poverty and social exclusion.

Every child deserves:
📚 Quality education
🛡️ Protection from abuse and exploitation
⚖️ Access to justice
❤️ Care, dignity, and support
🌍 An opportunity to reach their full potential

As we commemorate this important day, let us strengthen our collective responsibility to ensure that no child is left behind and that the best interests of the child remain at the center of all decisions affecting their lives.

Happy Day of the African Child.

As conversations around World Fistula Day continue, we are reminded that healing goes beyond medical treatment. Reintegration matters.

Throwing it back to Valentine's Day 2026, when CELSIR's Executive Director, Ms. Aññé Munyua had the privilege of facilitating a training on women's rights, empowerment, and reintegration for the solidarity groups of the Let's End Fistula Initiative (LEFI).

The session brought together courageous fistula survivors who are rebuilding their lives through a remarkable reintegration model. Through solidarity groups, survivors support one another, access economic empowerment opportunities, strengthen their social networks, and reclaim their confidence and dignity.

Our discussions focused on:

✅ Women's rights and human dignity
✅ Economic empowerment and self-reliance
✅ Leadership and community participation
✅ Access to justice and support systems
✅ Breaking stigma and rebuilding confidence

One lesson stood out clearly: treatment is only part of the journey. Many survivors continue to face stigma, exclusion, economic hardship, and disrupted family relationships long after receiving medical care. Sustainable recovery requires acceptance, opportunity, and support.

At CELSIR, we understand the importance of reintegration. Whether supporting survivors of trauma, formerly incarcerated persons, or marginalized communities, we have seen that lasting change happens when people are given not only a second chance, but also the tools, support, and acceptance needed to thrive.

We remain grateful to LEFI for creating spaces where women can heal, lead, and rebuild their futures.

🇰🇪 Happy Madaraka Day, Kenya!

63 years ago, we claimed the right to self-governance.

Today, CELSIR asks: What does freedom mean for those still waiting for justice?

For the woman on death row who was never heard.

For the child separated from their mother by a sentence.

For the prisoner who sleeps single-file because there is no bed.

For the family searching for a missing child while the system looks away.

Madaraka is not just political independence. It is the dignity of every Kenyan behind bars, in court, in the community.

At CELSIR, we mark this day by renewing our commitment: to legal empowerment, to prison reform, to abolition of the death penalty, and to a Kenya where justice is not a privilege but a right.

Eid al-Adha Mubarak 🌙✨

As we mark this sacred season of sacrifice, compassion, and faith, CELSIR celebrates the values of mercy, dignity, forgiveness, and community.

May this Eid remind us of the importance of extending kindness to the vulnerable, hope to the forgotten, and second chances to those seeking restoration and healing.

May your sacrifices be rewarded with love, peace, renewed strength, and abundant blessings.

Eid Mubarak from all of us at CELSIR. 🤍

We are proud to see our Chairperson, Board of Governance, and Head of Legal Services, Mr. Oscar Oduor, featured in national media for his intervention in a significant criminal justice matter involving a vulnerable minor.

The case underscores the urgent need for child-sensitive and trauma-informed justice approaches, particularly where issues of defilement, exploitation, abandonment, and systemic vulnerability intersect with the criminal justice system.

Mr. Oduor’s intervention called for proper investigations and accountability, emphasizing that vulnerable children should not bear the full weight of criminalization while those who may have contributed to their exploitation escape scrutiny.

At CELSIR, we believe justice must go beyond punishment. It must include fairness, protection of vulnerable persons, accountability, rehabilitation, and safeguarding human dignity.

We commend the continued commitment of our legal team toward advancing access to justice and defending the rights of marginalized communities.

“Ilikua tarehe kumi na saba mwezi wa tano…”
And truly, this May 17 is one for the books! 🎶✨

Just like in the iconic Stella story, this date carries meaning, memories, and a little bit of legend. But for us at CELSIR, May 17 marks the birthday of a woman whose journey, resilience, and impact continue to inspire hope and transformation in the lives of so many.

Today, we celebrate our Executive Director, Anne Munyua, a passionate advocate for justice, rehabilitation, dignity, and second chances. Through her leadership, countless indigent persons, victims, incarcerated and formerly incarcerated persons have found legal support, hope, healing, and pathways back to society.

From courtrooms to prisons, from paralegal trainings to reintegration support, your work continues to leave footprints of humanity where the world often forgets to look.

Ndiyo ilikua tarehe kamili… ya kusherehekea kiongozi wetu! 🎉

Happy Birthday Anne! May this new chapter bring you joy, strength, laughter, favor, and even greater impact.

With love and appreciation,
The CELSIR Family ❤️

A prison gate opened today — but this is more than a release story.

Another bittersweet but beautiful day for CELSIR.

A prison gate opened today — but this is more than a release story.

One of our CELSIR-trained prison paralegals finally regained his freedom, and we were there to receive him, support him, and begin the reintegration journey together.

Inside prison, he became more than an inmate: 📚 A prison paralegal librarian helping others access justice
🧑🏽‍🏫 A Physics teacher in the inmate school programme
⛪ A Seventh Day Adventist Church deacon offering spiritual support and hope

A truly valuable resource ready to rebuild his life with renewed dignity, purpose, and hope.

Our team received him upon release and provided an exit support package as he begins his reintegration journey.

Because justice should not end at the prison gate. Reintegration, dignity, and second chances matter too.

Another happy yet bittersweet day for CELSIR.

Today, we had the privilege of seeing off a CELSIR-trained prison paralegal upon his release from prison. Over the years, he used his knowledge and skills to support fellow inmates through peer legal empowerment and prison paralegal work, becoming a source of hope and assistance to many within the prison community, acting as a librarian for the paralegals.

Away from paralegal work, he taught Physics to the inmate school program and was a church deacon at the Seventh Day Adventist Church. A truly rich resource that we belive is ready to reontegrate and build his life with renewed vigour and hope.

As he begins this new chapter, our team visited him at the point of release and provided an exit support package to assist with his transition back into society.

For us, justice does not end when prison gates open. True justice must also include dignity, rehabilitation, reintegration, and the opportunity to rebuild one’s life with support and hope.

We are excited to continue walking this reintegration journey with him and to witness the positive impact he will continue making within the community.
