We help crisis-affected people access nutritious food while empowering communities to grow and access food amidst a changing climate. WFP has traditionally provided life-saving relief food to assist vulnerable populations in the ASALs and refugees. However, with the rising frequency and severity of climate shocks, this approach is no longer sustainable. To build long-term resilience, WFP in Kenya
is actively implementing its "changing lives" agenda through diversified and innovative approaches to solutions in close collaboration with the national and county governments and partners. WFP Kenya seeks to provide lifesaving, hunger-reducing and nutrition-sensitive support, integrating the treatment of acute malnutrition with prevention for refugees and in the Arid and Semi-arid lands (ASALs) who are most at risk before, during and in the aftermath of shocks. WFP Kenya has embraced capacity strengthening of national and county systems as the central strategic driver for supporting shock-responsive social protection, safety nets and disaster and climate risk management. WFP in Kenya is in the process of rolling out the differentiated assistance approach to refugee assistance in collaboration with UNHCR and the Department of Refugee Services. This means transitioning from assisting all registered refugee households the same way to one that assists based on needs/vulnerabilities. This shift will ensure beneficiaries receive support tailored to their specific vulnerabilities and needs, ensuring equity, effectiveness, maximizing impact with limited resources, and empowerment. WFP is committed to applying proven approaches that make food systems more climate-resilient, productive, inclusive, equitable, environmentally sustainable, and better able to provide safe, healthy and nutritious diets for all people and communities.
