Parliamentarians and key stakeholders in Namibia 🇳🇦, convened by
UNODC - United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and
Africa Young Parliamentarians Network, with the support of
Norad agreed on key commitments and a roadmap to advance political party financing reforms in the country, strengthening transparency in line with UNCAC CoSP Resolution 11/7.

Stronger oversight is at the heart of the adopted resolution. Namibia’s Anti-Corruption Commission and the Parliament of Namibia reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the resolution nationally strengthening accountability and integrity in political financing.

A stakeholder consultation on political party and campaign financing transparency and integrity is currently underway at the Parliament Building in Windhoek.

Organised by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the consultation brings together key stakeholders to discuss strengthening transparency, accountability and oversight in Namibia’s political financing system.

Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Philipus Katamelo, also attended the consultation and emphasised the importance of dialogue in resolving disputes, noting that solutions must come from the parties involved and may require political, social and economic considerations.

He further reflected on democracy, progress and success, stressing that success should not only be measured by material achievements but also by integrity, morality and genuinely earning one’s accomplishments.

As the five-day advanced training on Financial Investigations and Virtual Assets concluded on 28 August 2026 in Nairobi, Kenya🇰🇪, the focus moved from strengthened individual skills to lasting institutional results among investigators, prosecutors, financial intelligence analysts and regulators.

Through a partnership forged between UNODC - United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime's Illicit Finance Fusion Centre for Africa funded by U.S. Department of State 🇺🇸, Funded by European Union in Kenya 🇪🇺 and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC)’s Ethics and Anti-Corruption Academy (EACA), the final day brought together lessons on cross-border cooperation, engagement with the virtual asset industry, practical investigation workflows and institutional planning that can be applied to real cases.

Strengthening practical capabilities of Kenya’s regulatory and law enforcement agencies ensures that institutions curb financial crime with a coordinated approach and as a result, empowers them to detect, trace and recover valuable resources meant to serve societal needs.

Strengthening forest monitoring to support better evidence, coordination and governance in Uganda

Effective forest governance depends, in part, on the availability of credible information on what is happening on the ground and on the ability of relevant institutions to assess and respond to that information.

Uganda’s Independent Forest Monitoring (IFM) pilot seeks to contribute to this by strengthening field-based monitoring, community and civil society participation, evidence collection and validation, and timely follow-up with relevant institutions.

This week, national stakeholders reviewed and validated the pilot’s implementation plan in Kampala, providing a common framework for implementation over the next nine months.

The pilot will bring together community and independent monitors, civil society, government institutions and enforcement actors across selected forest areas. It will also test practical approaches for documenting and validating field information and strengthening coordination around identified governance and enforcement concerns.

The experience will generate lessons to inform future efforts to strengthen forest monitoring, institutional coordination and responses to forest crimes in Uganda 🇺🇬.
