Raia Development Initiative (RDI) proudly marks a historic milestone with the launch and handover of the Dariswanaag Gerilley Borehole, bringing the people of Gerilley access to clean and reliable water after more than 30 years of struggle.
Implemented under the Deris Wanaag Programme, this life-changing project brings renewed hope, dignity, and improved livelihoods to the community. It reflects RDI’s unwavering commitment to grassroots development, resilience, and empowering underserved populations.
The official launch and handover ceremony was graced by distinguished leaders, including the Regional Commissioner for Northern Kenya, the Wajir County Commissioner, the Wajir South Member of Parliament, the Wajir County Government CEC for Water, and representatives from the British High Commission.
Today, Gerilley turns a new page where women walk shorter distances for water, children enjoy better health, and families look forward to a brighter, more sustainable future.

RDI with the support of REINVENT Programme, funded by British High Commission BHC, conducted a capacity-building training for National Police Service (NPS) officers in Wajir, reaching 46 participants drawn from all sub-counties.

The sessions were facilitated by experts from the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) and REINVENT. These sessions provided a comprehensive overview of the historical context and evolution of police reforms in Kenya, the legal and institutional framework governing policing, and key restructuring and accountability mechanisms.

The training fostered a shared understanding of people-centred policing, policing within the rule of law, and the personal and institutional responsibilities necessary to uphold these principles, while aligning with global democratic policing standards adapted to the Kenyan context.

Participants also examined the establishment, mandate, vision, and operational independence of IPOA under the IPOA Act 2011, with emphasis on its core functions, including complaint investigation, operational monitoring, institutional inspections, and the issuance of recommendations.

In addition, the programme introduced a survivor-centred approach to addressing Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), equipping officers with the knowledge and skills to deliver effective, lawful, and empathetic responses to survivors..

The Raia Development Initiative (RDI) is thrilled to announce the launch of KES 3,000,000 in-kind grants under the Reducing Vulnerability to Conflict and Violent Extremism in Wajir (REVIVE) project, Supported by Deris wanaag program.

This transformative initiative aims to empower 15 youth and women groups from vulnerable and minority communities in cross-border regions, including Gerilley, Handaki East, and Konton in Kenya, and Darussalam and Gerilley in Somalia.

Through the provision of start-up kits, this project seeks to support sustainable business ventures, reduce economic vulnerabilities, and mitigate the risks of radicalization and criminal activities. By creating opportunities for economic resilience and self-reliance, we are fostering pathways for peace and stability.

In addition to providing these resources, RDI will link beneficiaries to further funding opportunities to ensure long-term growth and sustainability of their ventures. This initiative is a testament to our commitment to building empowered, peaceful, and economically thriving communities across borders.

We look forward to working with local leaders, partners, and the community to make this vision a reality. Together, we are laying the foundation for a brighter and more secure future for the region.
