January is Human Trafficking Prevention Month, a time to consider the ongoing issues faced by migrant workers today. At Domestic Workers Returnees of Kenya , we witness how forced labor continues to take advantage of vulnerable workers abroad. Many returnees deal with unpaid wages, abuse, and unsafe working conditions. This shows that trafficking isn’t just a problem from the past; it’s still changing and affecting lives. This month reminds us that protecting workers involves more than just rescue.
We need to provide support that centers on survivors, ensure safe reintegration, and strengthen systems to prevent exploitation before it starts. By listening to survivors, we can create solutions that genuinely make a difference.
