This World Environment Day, we joined the Tsunza community and DTB Bank to plant 100,000 mangroves in Kwale County, bringing the total planted under the DTB banner to 600,000.

The exercise contributes to DTB’s target of planting 1.2 million trees this year and 10 million trees by 2030.

Beyond restoration, this is about livelihoods and resilience. As Juma Mashanga, Chairperson of the Mwatsumbo Forest Association, put it: “It means fish. It means income. It means a future for our children.”

Timely and intentional conversations happening in Dubai-UAE.

This week our Group CEO Dan Mwero held a very fruitful discussion with Dr. Bu Abdullah, the Chairman of Bu Abdullah Investment Group in Dubai-UAE.

On account of our sustainable and commendable environmental restoration work in Africa, the discussion with Bu Abdullah Investment Group was centred on joint implementation of several Sustainability, ESG & Carbon Solutions project in line with the UAE governments pillars on Sustainability.

In the end, there was congruence on collaboration opportunities to spearhead the environmental restoration and enhance the UAE’s sustainability Pillars and the UN-SDGs.

We look forward to acheivgreater outcomes together.

In Mombasa, we held a comprehensive training session for our county enumerators who will support the group profiling and data collection process within their respective areas across Mombasa, Kwale and Kilifi counties. This exercise is part of the groundwork for our upcoming community livelihoods project in collaboration with Lattice.

At the heart of our approach is the belief that meaningful and sustainable impact begins with the community. By equipping local enumerators with the right skills and tools, we ensure that the data collected truly reflects the realities, needs, and aspirations of the people we work with.

For us, every project begins by walking alongside the community from the very start, listening, learning, and building solutions together.

It was time for post-planting monitoring at Bonje Block, under the MWATSUMBO Community Forest Association (CFA) in Kwale County, and this time, we were proud to be joined by IberAfrica, a key partner in our mangrove restoration efforts.

Having played a vital role from nursery preparation to planting, IberAfrica returned to assess the progress of the young mangroves. Together, we share a simple but powerful belief: it’s not just about planting trees, it’s about growing them.

We are excited to report a remarkable 98% survival rate! This achievement is a testament to strong partnerships, community dedication, and proper post-planting care. The results have further inspired IberAfrica to deepen their commitment by planting even more mangrove trees as we continue restoring degraded mangrove forests.

Beyond restoration, our work also supports community livelihood projects, creating sustainable income opportunities while protecting nature.

We were honoured to meet Dr. Richard Muyungi, Secretary General in the Office of the Deputy President of Tanzania, in Dodoma.

Our discussions focused on potential collaboration with the Office of the Deputy President on environmental conservation initiatives and the advancement of carbon credit programs. The meeting marked an important step toward strengthening partnerships aimed at promoting sustainable development and climate action in Tanzania.
