A cross-border peace and security meeting in the spirit of Uwiano, bringing together NGAOs, NPS, religious and community leaders from Tiaty East (Baringo County), Samburu Central Sub-County and Kirima Sub-County (Laikipia County). This was in response to persisting insecurities arising from livestock theft and delayed recovery of the same. The government expressed a commitment to ensuring rapid recovery of stolen livestock, holding the criminals to account and working closely with local peace structures to ensure recently stolen livestock is recovered and restored to rightful owners.

We held a public baraza at Ogwedhi in Suna West to address cross border conflicts this week. Stock theft and boundary disputes took centre stage. However, the main challenge noted is the fact that some livestock were stolen from the area the previous night and driven towards Transmara. We had to meet with the leaders and elders first before proceeding to the baraza which was given a wide berth by the Maasai community. However, those present called for more engagements with the neighboring Maasai and Kuria communities to consolidate peace in the area. Security agencies also gave an undertaking to ensure all stolen livestock are recovered and suspects prosecuted.

From earlier in the week.. A youth at Risk forum in embakasi facilitated by Akendo and our volunteer Hilda.
The forum consisted of youth drawn from the different parts of embakasi some of whom are still at risk..
The youth openly discussed issues affecting them, how crime is perpetrated, and at the end, we linked them up with two key stakeholders, one from the youth office who promised to enable those inrerested join a masonry school and the other a chv network volunteer.
