Access to safe and dignified sanitation remains a daily challenge for millions living in informal settlements across Kenya. From overflowing pit latrines to limited waste management systems, these gaps continue to pose serious health risks—especially for women and children.

But change is possible when the right voices come together.

This Wednesday, Umande Trust is proud to be part of an important conversation on “The Urban Challenge: Inclusive Sanitation in Informal Settlements” hosted on X Spaces. Our Ag. Managing Trustee, Benazir Omotto, will join other sector leaders to explore practical, inclusive, and sustainable solutions—from Citywide Inclusive Sanitation (CWIS) to Faecal Sludge Management (FSM) and Container-Based Sanitation.

This discussion will reflect on the progress made, highlight existing gaps, and chart a path forward toward sanitation systems that work for everyone—especially underserved communities.

🗓 Date: Wednesday, April 29th
⏰ Time: 2 PM (EAT)
📍 Platform: X Spaces

We had the honour of attending the graduation ceremony of Andolo Bridge Community Based Organisation, celebrating 62 young people who successfully completed training in vertical gardening, waste management, yoghurt production, and briquette making.

Beyond gaining practical skills, several graduates have taken the next step to become Trainers of Trainers (TOTs), ready to pass on knowledge and create even greater impact within their communities. This is a powerful step towards youth empowerment, sustainable livelihoods, and community-driven change.

Today we celebrate International Women’s Day, a moment to honor the strength, resilience, and leadership of women and girls across our communities and around the world.

At Umande Trust, we believe that when women and girls are empowered, entire communities grow stronger and more sustainable. Every woman deserves equal opportunities, dignity, safety, and a voice in shaping the future.

This year’s theme, “Rights. Justice. Action. for All Women and Girls,” reminds us that progress requires collective commitment. Together, we must continue advocating for equal rights, supporting women’s leadership, and creating spaces where girls can dream boldly and achieve their full potential.

Let us celebrate the women who inspire change every day and renew our commitment to building a just, inclusive, and equitable world for all.
