|TEEN MOMS| 02.07.2024
Empowerment sessions for teen moms for AN JABER FOUNDATION typically focus on providing support, education, and resources to help them navigate the challenges of young parenthood. These sessions often cover various topics designed to empower teen mothers by boosting their confidence, knowledge, and skills.

Some areas of focus on this included:
•Discussions on Communicable Diseases.
At the end of this session, the girls were be able to:
- Describe the burden of communicable diseases
- Define epidemiology and epidemiological terminologies.
- Identify the major communicable diseases that pose
health problems

Communicable diseases spread from person to person, or sometimes from animals to people. They occur at all ages but are most serious in childhood and they are to a great extent preventable.

Communicable diseases remain very important in developing countries because:
Many of them are very common.
Some of them are serious and cause death and disability.
Some of them cause widespread out breaks of disease or
epidemics.
Poor socio-economic status of the individuals makes them
vulnerable to a variety of diseases.
Low educational status.
Lack of access to modern health care service.

However, most of them are preventable by fairly simple means.

•Unpacking the possible impact of the just withdrawn Finance Bill 2024
We helped them learn their democratic rights and how vital their voices are in matter Finance Bill even on social media.
Unfortunately not most of them even knew what was happening in their own country but thanks to sessions like this AN JABER FOUNDATION sensitized them accordingly.

•Opportunities they can chase to be financially empowered.
Most of these girls are in very vulnerable situations/backgrounds yet very smart.
They have kids to fend for but from what jobs??? We were privileged to share with them an opportunity at CCI KENYA. A company that hires youth and all they need is your ID and KCSE Cert. What a win in Kenya cause many a times the qualifications are absurd. An example being “5 years experience”

Nevertheless,If you know of any opportunities you’d love to share with them-kindly do reach out. Thank you

What comes to your mind when you hear of girls who involve in sexual exploitation to buy sanitary towels?

What comes to your mind when you hear of girls who are rejected by their families and partners after they’re pregnant?

What comes to your mind when you hear of girls who have to drop out of school cause they’re pregnant because no support is aided their way?

What comes to your mind when you hear of girls who has to resort to the streets cause she’s financially depreciated?

What comes to your mind when you hear of girls who suffer depression after realizing they’re pregnant?

I often ask myself these questions and I’m glad it lays a burden in me to continue advocating for the GIRL CHILD. I believe this should affect us all.

Every first Tuesday of the month,AN JABER gatheres 30 teen moms to be listened to. We had a session of learning, unlearning and relearning from each other. After the 3 hour session we share a meal then call it a day.

This girls are strong🙌🏾🤯 because their stories would definitely leave you speechless but we are the voices of the things said and unsaid so we must continue strong.
