Kenya Oral Literature Association

Kenya Oral Literature Association KOLA works with like-minded civil society organizations to promote gender responsive civic awareness at the grassroots level using the oral media.

In the recent past, KOLA has worked with Panos - London in the Oral Testimonies Project to document people’s perceptions of development through oral testimonies in various parts of Kenya. KOLA has also been involved in the implementation of the Gender and Governance Programme (GGP: 2005 – 2006), the National Civic Education Programme (NCEP: 2001 – 2002, 2006 – 2007) and the 2007 Voter Education Pr

ogramme. Currently, KOLA is involved in peace building and conflict resolution in Kenya using traditional conflict management mechanisms. The organization has a membership of seventy researchers and scholars from the University of Nairobi, Moi University, Egerton University, Maseno University, Kenyatta University, Baraton University, Daystar University and the Catholic University of Eastern Africa. KOLA also has over fifty members who are oral artists from various Kenyan communities.
