Conflict can leave lasting impacts on individuals and communities. Many of us carry grief , fear ,loss or silence and too often we carry them alone. On 24 September 2026, the National Steering Committee (NSC) on Women, Peace and Security (WPS) held its quarterly coordination meeting in Nairobi, bringing together government institutions, independent commissions, security actors, UN Women and civil society partners.

The meeting, convened by Act with support from the Embassy of Denmark, provided an opportunity to review progress under Kenya’s National Action Plan (KNAP III) and discuss how different actors can strengthen preparedness ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

Key priorities discussed included:

Beyond Representation – Ensuring women’s voices influence decisions, policies and budgets, not just their presence at the table.

KNAP III Localization – Strengthening connections between national structures and peace mechanisms at county and community levels.

Sustainable Resourcing – Making sure WPS priorities are reflected in institutional plans and budgets.

Proactive Early Warning – Linking grassroots women peacebuilders with national early warning and rapid-response mechanisms.

2027 Electoral Security – Strengthening gender-responsive safety measures and protecting women political actors throughout the electoral cycle.

Moving the WPS agenda forward will require continued collaboration between government, security actors, civil society and development partners to turn commitments into action.

And just like that, 30 days of our peace campaign has come to an end.

Over the past month, we’ve shared ideas, stories and conversations around peace and the different ways we can contribute to it.

But this is not where it ends. The conversations continue, and so does the work.

Let’s keep choosing peace in our everyday lives and keep investing in a more peaceful future for everyone, everywhere, every day.
