Peace isn't just the absence of violence; it’s the presence of justice, inclusion, and open dialogue. 🌱🌍

A lot of times, people confuse peacekeeping with peacebuilding. While one stops the immediate conflict, the other does the deep, long-term work of making sure it doesn't happen again.

Young peace leaders bring fresh perspectives, innovative ideas, and are deeply in tune with the unique needs of their peers and communities.

True, lasting mediation can’t happen if the largest part of the population is left out of the room. 🌍✨

The International Day of Living Together in Peace, proclaimed by UN Resolution 72/130, is a call to build unity, tolerance, solidarity, and understanding across nations and communities. πŸŒπŸ•ŠοΈ

It reminds us that peace is not just the absence of conflict, but a positive process built through dialogue, cooperation, reconciliation, and mutual respect. As UNESCO notes, β€œsince wars begin in the minds of men, it is in the minds of men that the defenses of peace must be constructed.”

Today, IPHRD Africa is hosting an online conversation under the theme β€œTukuze Amani” to reflect on peaceful coexistence, inclusion, and unity.

Have you heard about the Youth, Peace, and Security (YPS) Agenda happening in πŸ‡°πŸ‡ͺ right now?

Do you know that Kenya is working on its first National Action Plan on YPS?
For a long time, young people have been left out of major decisions regarding community security, justice, and governance. Often, youth are only mentioned when there is trouble, rather than being seen as part of the solution.

WHAT'S CHANGING?
Kenya is setting up its first-ever national plan to intentionally include young voices - especially young women and grassroots leaders - in conflict mediation and policy making and governance.

WHY IT MATTERS TO YOU:
It means youth leadership isn't just a buzzword anymore; it's becoming a formal requirement in national peacebuilding. It’s about moving from being passive observers to active co-creators of our country's future.
