🛖 Traditional knowledge is built through ongoing observation rather than inherited unchanged. Intergenerational transmission allows that process to continue.

It keeps knowledge moving from person to person and season to season, allowing it to respond to changing conditions.

But that transmission is not automatic. Displacement, disrupted schooling or a language falling out of use can interrupt it within a single generation, and knowledge can disappear outright. ⚠️

🌍 Happy International Youth Day 2026! 🌱

On this significant global occassion, the Kenyan Youth Biodiversity Network (KYBN) celebrates the zeal, innovativeness, synergies, and progressive leadership of all our members and every young person working to protect Kenya’s incredible biodiversity, on the path to a healthier, more resilient planet for people and nature.

From restoring mangroves and forests, to championing sustainable oceans, advancing citizen science, fighting plastic pollution, and shaping biodiversity policies—Kenya's young people are not just the leaders of today; we are the doers of today ✊🏾

On this , we call for greater investment in youth-led solutions, meaningful youth participation in environmental decision-making, and opportunities that turn young people's ideas into lasting solutions.
