On Wednesday, 12th. Threshers were delivered to different groups including; Ondigwa Namoni Group, Lwanda Main Stage Youth Group, Nyakweri Group, Kabuto, Ong'er Riverside Bodaboda Youth Group. This will greatly assist in to mechanically separate rice grains from the panicle (or straw) and husks, for our farmers.

Driving Agricultural Growth Through Collaboration and Innovation 🌱🚜

Agriculture remains a key driver of economic growth, and technological advancements continue to shape the sector. To ensure sustainability and long-term impact, continued investment in mechanization, training, and market access is crucial.

Recently, key stakeholders of the Water Optimization Project in Nyatike—FAO, the County Government of Migori, and First Bridge Foundation—came together to brainstorm ways to enhance agricultural productivity while monitoring the project's progress.

Key resolutions moving forward include:
✅ Strengthening farmer awareness and training programs to encourage land utilization.
✅ Exploring additional funding opportunities for mechanization and infrastructure development.
✅ Developing strategies to balance mechanization with job creation in agriculture.
✅ Enhancing collaboration between stakeholders to ensure long-term success.

By working together, we can unlock Nyatike’s agricultural potential, drive economic growth, and improve food security. Excited to see the impact of these resolutions in action!

Report: Arize 6444 Gold Rice Farming in Nyatike

Introduction

The introduction of Arize 6444 Gold Rice, a premium rice variety, marks a significant milestone in enhancing agricultural productivity in Nyatike. This initiative is a collaborative effort between the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the County Government of Migori, the First Bridge Foundation (FBF), and the people of Japan, whose generous support has made this project a reality.

Key Objectives
The project aims to:

✍️Improve food security by introducing high-yield and resilient rice varieties.
✍️Empower local farmers through training and access to premium seeds.
✍️Enhance water optimization techniques to sustain rice farming in Nyatike’s challenging environment.

Progress and Activities
Farmers in Nyatike are now actively cultivating Arize 6444 Gold rice, with significant strides made in:

Seedbed Preparation: Farmers have been trained to prepare and manage seedbeds efficiently.

Transplanting Techniques: Proper transplanting methods have been implemented to maximize growth and yield.

Below are images showcasing the progress:

Impact of Japanese Support
The Japanese government's support has been instrumental in providing:

High-quality Arize 6444 Gold rice seeds.
Training programs on modern rice farming practices.
Resources for water optimization to ensure sustainability.

FAO and FBF have played pivotal roles in:
Organizing farmer awareness programs.
Facilitating access to funding for mechanization and infrastructure development.
Coordinating stakeholder collaboration to guarantee the project’s long-term success.

🌾 Empowering Rice Farmers at Lower Kuja Rice Scheme! 🌾

On Friday, December 13, 2024, 250 rice farmers at the Lower Kuja Rice Scheme received high-yield Arize Gold 6444 seeds, marking a significant step toward improving agricultural productivity in the region.

Led by the FBF team under the leadership of Dr. Osowo, this initiative ensured the accurate distribution of these seeds to the rightful beneficiaries. Arize Gold 6444 is a game-changer for rice farming, offering exceptional yields thanks to its prolific flowering and sprouting capabilities—enabling farmers to produce more per acre than ever before.

This impactful distribution was made possible courtesy of The People of Japan through a water-related resilience project spearheaded by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Each farmer received 10 kilograms of seeds, enough to cultivate one acre of farmland.

This initiative is a testament to the power of collaboration in driving food security and agricultural resilience. Here's to a bountiful harvest for the farmers of Lower Kuja! 🌱💪

FBF DELIVERS!

Meet Veronica T**a. An elderly widow from Nyabera village.
In her old age, Veronica lives with eight orphans from her sons and daughters. Her smile has always kept her village wondering if she feels the burden of raising such a big family in this economy.
A close interview with Mama Veronica left us in awe not comprehending the best way we can sustain her improved situation.

In January, we distributed livestock feeds in Ruma-kaksingri, one of the wards and areas that benefitted from the drought mitigation project and where Mama Veronica was a beneficiary.
After successful training on how to administer the feeds, good storage, and finally the distribution, she took her share and followed the instructions to the latter.

On this particular day, she was overwhelmed with joy as she received us in her home.
After receiving the unconditional cash, she could not hide her joy as she narrated how she managed to take the grandchildren to school with ease, she narrated gasping for air in happiness,
as she could not believe that we could follow up and take notes on the impact of the project in her life.

Over the past four weeks after administering the feeds to her lactating cow, she received double the milk level which has impacted her life. " I supply one of the schools with 3 litres of milk which is deducted from my grandchild's fees" her face lit as she expressed reprieve from the school fees burden.
"My grandchildren are healthier as they have a cup of milk twice a week due to the increased production.", she added. "We have enough food, a balanced diet, we can now afford to buy fruits too. We sell the milk which enables us to have money in our pockets and meet other financial obligations", she affirms to our team that visited her for milk production monitoring.

As we wind up the day with her, she raised her head and asked a number of questions: " How do I sustain this milk production once the feeds are over? Will I go back to the state I was in with my grandchildren? Do you know how much impact this program has made in my life since I received the cash and feeds?. My life has changed. I only request that you help us get a way of keeping our cows in this milk production state", she requested as she gave her parting shot.

Please, my daughter, she asked as she reached out to our staff to shake her hand, pass my sincere regard to everyone who's hand is in this project. I pray that God will bless the funders of this project", She concluded her speech.

Leaving the compound of mama Veronica, we kept on asking ourselves how the project sustainability scope should be drawn.
A high recommendation for sustainability of this project has been floated by a section of our beneficiaries, monitoring staff and the departments of agriculture and livestock at the county level.

As First Bridge Foundation - KE team, we applaud the Food and Agriculture Organisation and The German Corporation for a wonderful project that has touched lives of the most vulnerable people in our villages.
