ST CHRISTINESCOMMUNITY BASED SCHOOL( acronym STC CBS) is a community based education and life skills provision centre founded in February 2000 by a pioneer group of members who are part of the ST CHRISTINES Community Based Organization, under whose auspices the school was initiated ,implemented and managed. The community based school was a response to the problem of high incidence of poverty a
mong the slum dweller occasion by inability to access income generating opportunities due to insufficient life skills and vocational training. A needs assessment was organized ,which identified the need of a community based facility that would provide an integrated program involving offering the Kenya Approved primary curriculum of primary education, a feeding program, a psycho-social support program for traumatized pupils attending the school, and an economic strengthening program for guardians/parents of the very poor families with children under the programs. Through the provision of education in this integrated approach, ST CHRISTINESCBS participates in the achievement of the Kenya Vision 2030, the Nairobi County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP), and the Global SDG No.1 (No Poverty) and No.4 (Quality inclusive Education for all) by 2030. The project is situated at Raila location, Kibra sub county, Nairobi county Kibera Slums. Its main core is to cater for destitute, needy, orphans and vulnerable children by providing them with shelter, education, food and cloths [i.e. school uniform and ordinary] when available. Subject to availability of resources and support, STC CBS has a strategy of growing into one of the best integrated educational providers in the informal settlement community
