A grassroots organization that empowers women and girls, including those with disabilities, by strengthening and amplifying their agency to overcome all forms of violence, structural inequalities, and social exclusion. Established in 2016, INUA K**E (Swahili word for Women Rising) is a Grassroots girls and women focused Community Based Organization with offices in Mathare, Nairobi-Kenya that focus

es on investing in empowering women and girls to realize their full potential, worth and strength socially, economically and civically through advocating for their human and social justice rights. INUA K**E recognizes that the government of KENYA has made significant strides in promoting Gender Equality (SDG 5) but we still have gender issues that affect their full participation in decision-making, especially in urban informal settlements and rural areas of Kenya. This presents both challenges and opportunities for girls & women empowerment; INUA K**E sees more opportunities than challenges throughout this journey and we understand that these significant strides being made by the government and other actors towards gender equality are being increasingly challenged by women and girls' economic dependency, illiteracy, marginalization, HIV/AIDS, Sexual & Gender Based Violence (SGBV), conflict, insensitive laws and policies.

Last Day (Day 3) of Life Skills Refresher Training in Korogocho

Today marked a significant milestone as we aligned adolescent girls and young women for Year Two of the She Rises Beyond Violence Project.

Building on the knowledge and skills strengthened over the past months, participants engaged in reflective sessions to assess their growth, clarify their roles, and prepare to take on enhanced leadership as peer mentors, advocates, and change-makers within their communities.

Through structured and guided discussions, the girls explored the transition from learning to action, setting both personal and collective goals for Year Two, strengthening accountability, and reaffirming their commitment to fostering safer, more empowered spaces for themselves and their peers.

This phase represents not just a continuation of the journey, but a meaningful transformation.

With renewed purpose, strengthened confidence, and a shared vision, these young women are well-positioned to lead boldly, challenge harmful norms, and actively contribute to the prevention of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence in Korogocho.

The next phase begins with them.

Our Ongoing Refresher Life Skills Training in Korogocho

The energy, the courage, the growth, it’s all happening at Ngunyumu Primary School in Korogocho!

Under the INUA K**E's She Rises Beyond Violence Project in Korogocho, we are working with 40 powerful adolescent girls and young women from our safe spaces, bringing together participants from Phase One and Phase Two trainings conducted earlier this year.

This is more than a refresher, it is a reigniting of knowledge, confidence, and purpose. Participants are revisiting and strengthening critical life skills on:
• Self-Confidence
• Smart Thinking
• Sexual and Reproductive Health
• Gender, Violence and Safety
• Setting and Achieving Goals

Through bold conversations, peer learning, and shared experiences, these young women are sharpening their voices, deepening their awareness, and stepping stronger into their roles as leaders, mentors, and advocates for change, equipped to recognize, prevent, and confidently speak out against Sexual and Gender-Based Violence in their communities.

Korogocho is rising, because its girls are rising.

Today, we commemorate the Day of the African Child, a moment to honour the courage of children who stood up for their rights and to reaffirm our commitment to protecting every child’s future.

This year’s theme reminds us that access to water, sanitation, and hygiene is not a privilege, but a right for every child.

At INUA K**E, we remain committed to creating safe, dignified, and empowering spaces for girls and young women.

Our children. Our future. Our Africa. 💜

Today, INUA K**E continued implementing the She Rises Beyond Violence Project through a Girl-Led Dialogue on Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) at Lucy Education Centre in Korogocho, engaging over 70 adolescent girls in powerful and transformative conversations.

These ongoing dialogues provide safe and empowering spaces where girls can openly share their experiences, discuss the challenges affecting their lives, and explore practical solutions for preventing and responding to SGBV. Through girl-led discussions, participants continue to strengthen their knowledge of reporting and referral pathways, build confidence to speak out against violence, and embrace their role as leaders and advocates for positive change within their schools and communities.

Recognizing the critical link between menstrual dignity, protection, and education, INUA K**E also distributed sanitary towels to all participating girls. This support helps promote dignity, improve school attendance, and reduce vulnerabilities that may expose girls to exploitation, abuse, and other forms of violence.

At INUA K**E, we believe that when girls are given safe spaces, trusted support systems, and opportunities to lead, they become powerful agents of change. We remain committed to amplifying girls' voices, advancing their rights, and building communities where every girl can live free from violence, realize her full potential, and thrive.

Together, we are raising a generation of confident, informed, and resilient girls who are leading the movement towards safer and more inclusive communities.

Today, INUA K**E joins every girl and woman on the streets, standing in solidarity, raising our voices, and demanding justice.

We show up for every woman and girl.
For the voices that were silenced.
For the survivors carrying invisible scars.
For every family forced to bury love instead of celebrating life.

We refuse to normalize violence. We refuse to stay silent.

Until every woman and every child is safe, we will keep speaking, keep showing up, and keep demanding accountability.

This is not just a moment, it is a movement.

Yesterday, INUA K**E brought together 100 mothers and their daughters in Korogocho for the 3rd Mother-Daughter Community & Intergenerational Dialogue Forum under the She Rises Beyond Violence Project.

The forum created a safe space for honest conversations on preventing Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), strengthening family communication, and building safer communities for girls.

As part of our continued commemoration of World Menstrual Hygiene Day 2026, we also distributed sanitary towels to all mothers and daughters in attendance, promoting menstrual dignity, health, and confidence.

Together, we are raising informed, empowered, and protected girls.
