Just five hours left now on this year’s Kickstarter and we just overtook the totals for African Wild Dogs and Bears 😅 Time to place bets on where we might finish, I’m still hoping it is close enough to £160k to allow us to also reprint Remembering Elephants, which is just about to go out of print. Fingers crossed and to all who have supported so far, THANK YOU 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🦒

I just did some research on the retailer named after a river and was really shocked to realise there simply isn’t a coffee table book out there dedicated to giraffes so far. Given how many people seem to love them, I think this is a shocking omission and reflects I think the complacency with which they are viewed. We take for granted they will always be there while chasing cats and other “rarer” species on our safaris.
I’m therefore so proud that my team and I are shining a much-needed spotlight on them this year and having just gone through the latest design proofs, I can hand on heart say this book is going to be a stunning tribute.
This year’s Kickstarter has been a rollercoaster reminiscent to me of launching with trepidation the campaign for Remembering Cheetahs just as the pandemic was starting to impact us all. This time, it has been a war in the Middle East, surging oil prices and again, an end game which none of us can guess at. Yet once again, to my immense relief and gratitude, supporters in their hundreds have stepped up again to show their support.
With 28 hours to go now, we might not be in the top quartile of our performances over the years but we’re in a great place and I’m still hoping to raise enough to reprint Remembering Elephants too.
If you’ve not looked at the Kickstarter campaign - or even if you have, but not for a while - please indulge me by following the link in bio (or doing a quick search for Remembering Giraffes Kickstarter).
There are still a few safaris up for grabs which are now even more of a bargain than they were before (hint, hint) plus a great variety of other rewards as well as of course the new book. Let’s not be the generation that let giraffes ‘journey’ into extinction, just because there was always another animal we were more interested in - they truly deserve better 🙏🏻🦒

Only around three and a half days left now (we close 8pm UK Sunday) on the Remembering Giraffes Kickstarter! You’d think after 11 years they’d get less nerve-racking, but you’d be wrong 🤯
Still some fantastic rewards up for grabs as well as the books (including remarkably, some safari stays at a 30% bargain discount), all on offer to help us fund not only this book but hopefully also a reprint of Remembering Elephants too. Please do reshare this post and spread the word! And link is in bio if you’ve not yet had a look. Go on, you know you want to! 🙏🏻🦒🦒🦒🦒🦒

Only 6 days left to pledge!
An update on the Remembering Giraffes Kickstarter campaign somewhat derailed by a guest appearance 😹 Do take a watch to find out how it’s going and where we’re hoping to get by Friday 😅🦒🐘

I’m incredibly excited to announce a new nine-night elephant conservation safari in Kenya in January 2027, which I will be co-hosting with wildlife presenter and cameraman Gordon Buchanan MBE.
After I recently mentioned that a single place had become available on our private November safari, the response was extraordinary. So we’ve decided to release a second journey for just 12 guests — and I’m thrilled that Gordon will be joining me.
Many of you will know Gordon from his wildlife series filmed all over the world, but this trip has a particularly special connection. His programme Elephant Family & Me was filmed with the remarkable team at the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust — and during this safari we will spend time at their remote Ithumba camp in Tsavo, witnessing the long-term journey of orphaned elephants back to the wild.
Over nine unforgettable nights we’ll explore some of Kenya’s greatest elephant landscapes, including Amboseli and Tsavo, combining incredible wildlife encounters with rare conservation access and photography opportunities.
Along the way Gordon and I will share our experiences from decades spent filming and photographing wildlife — and immerse you in the conservation work being done to protect it.
As always, all profits from this trip will be donated to conservation organisations and it is a fantastic opportunity for elephant-lovers to travel with like-minded fellow travellers.
✨ January 2027 – 9 nights
🐘 Just 12 guests
📍 Amboseli • Tsavo • Ithumba
Five places have already been taken, so if this sounds like the trip of a lifetime, please get in touch soon.
We’re also happy to pair single travellers willing to share, so do let us know if that works for you.

A giraffe kind of day because at 18.00 UK, we’re going to be sharing the 200 images that have made the finals of the Remembering Giraffes photo contest. There are some incredible images there, so something to look forward to and savour.
In the meantime here’s one of mine of a Nubian giraffe from Lake Nakuru, those fever tree forests are so uniquely special. Appropriately, I think this was taken on a trip there with the talented whose embellished print is still up for grabs in our Kickstarter. Link in bio 🙏🏻🦒

Back to the wildlife. I’m playing around with some images of eles from my files at the moment, for a potential print. I’ve shortlisted this picture taken in golden hour light on the Chobe last year on our Elephant Festival. Love how the baby is hidden safely in a forest of the legs and trunks of its family.
