🌿 The Giving Exchange Visits Twajali🤝🏾

Today, we were honoured to have Ming Richie, Executive Director of The Giving Exchange, together with Brian and Charles, spend the morning with us. 💚

It was a good opportunity to share more about Twajali, Enaang and our plans for the future, especially as we continue thinking about how we can run and sustain the project.

They also got a chance to meet our trainees as they worked on their project prototypes. The trainees shared the problems they had identified and the solutions they were coming up with. I really enjoyed watching them explain their ideas, answer questions and interact with the team. 💡👏🏾

Later, we had a tour of the centre and the Enaang grounds, where we shared more about our sustainability plans and the vision we have for the space. 🌱

It was indeed a great opportunity to have you step into Twajali, meet our trainees and see a little bit of the dream we are building.

LET’S PLAY WITH INGREDIENT- 🥚👩🏽‍🍳

The fun part of the Soup stage is usually watching our trainees discover culinary, the real art of cooking. We may not have a professional kitchen yet, but that has never stopped us from being professional, creative and passionate about what we do.

After our cutting techniques practical, this week we played with eggs, asking ourselves: how many different things can we really make from one simple ingredient? 🥚 The looks on the trainees’ faces said it all, they were learning, experimenting and discovering that there is so much more to cooking than just following a recipe.

As usual, the practical ended with a simple breakfast setup, where we became the judges of our own cooking. 😊

At Twajali, we believe the classroom has no walls. Sometimes, all you need is an ingredient, a little creativity and the willingness to learn.

🍲 BATCH 12 IS BACK FOR SOUP & SALAD🥗

After the graduation and the launch of ENAANG Resort, we welcomed Batch 12 back on 3rd September for their Soup & Salad.

20 trainees are back, and somehow the transition from Appetizer to Soup feels different this time. There is a new sense of determination and focus. You can see that they are beginning to understand what they want and, more importantly, they have chosen to come back for it. Indeed, there is power in choices. 💪🏽

The Soup takes them into Navigating Challenges, where the classroom opens up to real hospitality challenges. They are challenged to look at situations, think through them and find solutions. 🍲

Then comes the Salad 🥗 — Critical Thinking and Creative Action — where entrepreneurship begins to take shape through group projects designed and carried out by the young people themselves.

The week started with a bang! 🔥 we got straight into practical sessions, beginning with equipment polishing, and soon after we were out offering catering services at a community outreach event. 👩🏽‍🍳👨🏽‍🍳

And as the week came to an end, every trainee planted a tree on our ENAANG grounds. 🌱🌳 — taking ownership of the place they are creating in and becoming part of creating a microclimate for the future. 🌍

From Appetizer to Soup & Salad, the journey continues. One choice at a time. 🌱

THANK YOU FOR BELIEVING IN THE DREAM 🙏🏽

On 28th August 2026, we celebrated an important milestone in the journey of Twajali Empowerment Network.

We hosted our 4th Graduation Ceremony, celebrating 18 beneficiaries from Batch 9 and previous cohorts who have completed their journey with us and are now taking different steps towards building their lives and livelihoods. 🎓

On the same day, we officially launched Enaang Resort — a dream that has been growing alongside Twajali. 🎉

Enaang brings together eco-tourism, hospitality, camping, farm-to-table dining, team-building and guided learning in a natural and culturally rich environment. 🌿

On this special day, Enaang welcomed more than 300 guests during the day and hosted 30 guests overnight. We were honoured to have friends of Twajali, strategic partners, government representatives, supporters and our major supporters, ESPeRANZA and Kanthari Foundation Switzerland, celebrate with us. 🙏🏽

As wee gathered around the bonfire, shared meals, sang together, all of us were connected around one common purpose: doing good and contributing to our community. 🔥

But what made the day even more special was that the entire event was planned and executed by our Batch 11 trainees as their final assignment before leaving for their attachments.

They planned the event, prepared the food, welcomed and hosted guests, served, solved problems and worked together to make the day a success.
Watching them take ownership of such a major event was a beautiful reminder of what practical learning can do. ❤️

Another special moment was hearing members of the local community speak about the change they have witnessed since Twajali came to the area. ❤️

Meet one of our Key partners- Ken Sila 👋🏾

Meet one of the people who has played a big role in helping us get here and a key person in the launch of ENAANG — Ken Sila, Director of Camping Trackers.

Enaang will host 30 guests a night. How can this be possible with no permanent buildings?
It’s possible with Camping Trackers. ⛺🌿

Camping Trackers are experts in safari and bush experiences, and Ken has become our mentor, benchmark and support partner as we work to turn the Twajali vision for Enaang into a reality.

But this partnership started even before Enaang had taken shape.

When Twajali first moved to our new location, we had the land, but no accommodation, no buildings and limited resources to start training. Camping Trackers stepped in at a very important moment — they provided the first accommodation for our first Appetizer for Batch 10.

For 21 days, they hosted our trainees in luxury camps, allowing us to begin training on our new land. That support helped us take those important first steps.

Today, they are walking with us again, this time helping us build and shape Enaang into a place that offers not just accommodation, but a memorable bush experience.

We are truly honoured to have Camping Trackers as a partner on this journey. 🤝🏾🌿

🎤 MEET OUR GUEST SPEAKERS! 🎓✨

The countdown to the Twajali 4th Graduation is on, and we’re excited to introduce some of the amazing people who will be sharing the day with us!

🌟 Mr. Peter Muindi – Our Chief Guest and former CEO of Kenya Utalii College. He has been instrumental in strengthening the Twajali–Utalii partnership, opening doors for our trainees to enjoy exposure visits. He also hosted architects Hester and Lennart during their site visit to Kenya as they developed the master plan for Twajali’s future—with Utalii serving as our benchmark institution.

🏗️ Arch. Stanley Kyalo – Chairperson of the Friends of Twajali and Chair of our Strategic Management Team. He led our first fundraising drive, which made our staff accommodation block possible, and serves as Twajali’s lead local architect, working closely with Engineers Without Borders Netherlands (EWB-NL) to bring our campus master plan to life.

🎓 Ms Winnie Musyoki – Chief Officer, SME Development, Machakos County, and a member of the Friends of Twajali. She has supported our fundraising efforts and continues to guide us on SME development, entrepreneurship, and opportunities for young people.

💡 Martin Mutula – Our Patron, who has been with Twajali from the very beginning, offering mentorship, guidance, encouragement, and looking out for the mental wellbeing of the Twajali family.

And this is just the beginning! 😉

We’ll also be joined by donors, partners, senior government officials, friends, parents and many others who have each played a part in making this journey possible.

🎓 TWAJALI 4TH GRADUATION CEREMONY 🎉

On 28th August 2026, we will celebrate our 4th Graduation Ceremony—a celebration unlike any before. This year, we proudly honor our Batch 9 graduates, who are now building successful careers in the hospitality industry. Their journey is a testament to the power of skills, resilience, and opportunity.

🏡 For the first time, we will gather on our own land in Ilkuishin—a dream that began with hope and determination and has now become a place where lives are transformed.

🌿 This special occasion will also mark the official launch of ENAAG Resort, our social enterprise that combines hospitality training with sustainable impact. Through the resort, we are creating a real-world learning environment while generating income to support our mission of empowering marginalized youth.

👨🏽‍🍳 Adding to the significance of the day, the entire event has been planned and executed by our Batch 11 trainees as the culmination of their on-campus training before they proceed to their industry attachments. From event planning and food production to hospitality service, décor, and guest experience, they will showcase the skills, professionalism, confidence, and leadership they have developed throughout their journey.

🍽️ The Appetizer Is Over. The Meal Is Just Beginning.

Every new batch brings a different kind of energy. Just when we have grown comfortable with one group, another arrives with new faces, different personalities, fresh perspectives, and endless possibilities. There is always excitement—and, if we're honest, a little uncertainty too—because no two journeys are ever the same.

Yesterday, we brought the Appetizer phase of Batch 12 to a close. 🎉

The Appetizer is the first three weeks of our six-month residential programme. During this phase, trainees begin discovering the hospitality industry they have chosen while building a strong foundation in critical thinking, resourceful problem-solving, teamwork, and personal growth. Every batch follows the same curriculum, but every batch writes a different story.

🌿 At Twajali, we believe the classroom has no walls.

Some of life's greatest lessons are learned through experience, which is why we intentionally take learning beyond the traditional classroom.

One unforgettable experience was our 32-kilometre nature walk, the longest distance any Twajali batch has covered. Even more remarkable, the trainees navigated the entire journey themselves through the bush, crossing rivers, climbing rocky terrain, making decisions together, and encouraging one another every step of the way. What looked like a walk became a lesson in leadership, teamwork, resilience, and resourceful problem-solving. 💚

⛑️ They also completed first aid training with St. John Ambulance, gaining practical life-saving skills, while the treasure hunt challenged them to think critically, work together, and creatively solve complex puzzles.

🌳 As has become our tradition, we marked the end of the Appetizer by planting four iconic trees representing our mentorship groups a reminder that every journey of growth begins with strong roots.

🔥 We ended the day around a bonfire, sharing stories, laughter, and reflections on everything that had been accomplished in just three weeks.

To our 23 trainees, thank you for embracing every challenge with courage, curiosity, and determination. We are proud of how far you have already come, and we cannot wait to welcome you back for Soup, where the next chapter of your journey begins.

🚂✨ Batch 12 Begins: The Train Has Officially Left the Station ✨

Twenty-three young people have boarded the journey that is Batch 12.

Every new batch reminds me that the beginning is always unique. There is excitement, uncertainty, hope, and twenty-three different stories that have somehow found themselves in the same room. ❤️

🍽️ At Twajali, we don't begin with hospitality skills.
We begin with Vision and Mission.

📖 Our first case study isn't from a textbook or a successful business. It's the journey of Twajali itself.

We share where we started, the challenges we've faced, the moments we questioned ourselves, and the vision that refused to let us give up. In many ways, Twajali's story becomes a mirror. It invites every trainee to pause and reflect on their own journey. 🪞

Because before anyone can discover where they are going, they must first make peace with where they have come from.

🌍 It is through accepting our past—not allowing it to define us—that we become intentional about where we are today and where we want to be tomorrow.

This conversation sets the pace for our Background and Identity sessions. It creates a safe space for young people to see themselves beyond their circumstances and to realize that every meaningful journey begins with a decision to move forward. 🌟

🙌 These first few days have been inspiring. Batch 12 is full of energy, curiosity, laughter, and a genuine willingness to learn. Their openness reminds us why we continue to believe in the potential of every young person who walks through our doors. 💙

The Appetizer has begun.
The train has left the station, and twenty-three young people have taken the first step on what we hope will be a life-changing journey.
