The Vision Sisters Working Sisters - Kibera Branch, is a self-help group formed by women of diverse backgrounds and faiths who are committed to improving their community, most notably by providing access to a "Women in Crisis Centre" (WICC) in Kianda Village, Kibera, Nairobi, Kenya. Given the extreme vulnerability of women in Kibera, the Vision Sisters have committed to build and support a WICC wh
ich will assist women in the community when they are most in need. The WICC is not intended to duplicate services that already exist, but rather to fill a gap left by services that are not available, and to provide efficient links for women to the services that are available. Moreover, we recognize that crises can range from being extreme – for example in the case of women who are victims of assault or other violence - to being sustained or chronic – for example in the case of women who cannot get sound advice or assistance on health, education or employment. This is intended to be a resource centre for all women. It is hoped, and expected, that the WICC will be self-sustaining and that it will provide some employment opportunities in the daily operation of the Centre, and some income generation opportunities for the Vision Sisters group, which can be used to advance, firstly, the mission of the WICC and, secondly, the mission of the Vision Sisters. We gratefully accept donations to the WICC project through our charity partner "Reach Out To Humanity for Health" (ROTH). If you are interested in making a donation, please visit www.canadahelps.org . On that site, search for and select "Reach Out To Humanity for Health". Once on the ROTH 'giving page', click "Donate", and in the form that follows, please select "5. Kibera Women in Crisis Center (WICC) - Kenya" for the field "Fund/Designation". Tax receipts will be issued automatically for donations over $20. Funds donated towards the WICC project will go to cover the construction of the center, furnishing the center, training programs for staff, and special programming like community education workshops. We are very grateful for your support!
