This weekend, GLEE Kenya was proud to partner with the Kenya Ostomy Association and Nane Experience to engage men in our community during Men’s Mental Health Month.
The truth is, many of us were raised to believe that men must always be strong, never cry, and carry every burden alone. These beliefs have caused many men to suffer in silence.
As we created a safe space for conversation, the men opened up about the challenges they face every day—unemployment, family conflicts, drug and substance abuse, financial pressure, and emotional struggles. Many shared that they often turn to clubs or unhealthy coping mechanisms to escape stress instead of seeking support from a counselor or talking to someone they trust.
It was an honor to facilitate this conversation as Mr. Kibera 2025, alongside Archi, Executive Director of Being Africa. Witnessing men speak openly, support one another, and begin their healing journey was a powerful reminder that change starts with honest conversations.
Men’s mental health matters. Seeking help is not a sign of weakness—it is a sign of strength.
Let’s continue breaking the silence, one conversation at a time.
