Furaha Community Foundation

Furaha Community Foundation We believe that education is the key to breaking endemic poverty in our slums. Moving out of the slum is a far-fetched dream for most of them.

~Creating opportunities for children and families to thrive with joy, dignity, and resilience through education, healthcare, and empowerment~ Children living in the slum have minimal options in life because they lack quality education. They grow up in the slum, marry in the slum, and bear children who, in most cases, continue this vicious

cycle of poverty. Our strategy emphasizes giving education and food to orphans and vulnerable children as a starting point, then empowering their guardians through micro-business loans, health care intervention for those who are HIV positive, and skills training that gives them the financial ability and muscle to take better care of their children, both within our program and their other siblings at home. We start with the child, the family, and finally, the whole community. We SERVE the community by providing the resources and the programs below. SERVE to us means MUCH more; Sustainability, Educating, Replicating, Volunteerism, and Empowerment of the Needy and Vulnerable Children and their guardians.

Today was more than a groundbreaking ceremony.

It was a reminder of how far partnership, faith, and community can take us.

For years, our school kitchen has faithfully served hundreds of meals every single day using firewood. Through smoke, rain, long hours, and limited space, our kitchen team has continued showing up with love and dedication for our children.

Today, we officially begin a new chapter.

Together with our friends and partners from Redeemer's Church, we broke ground for the construction of a new LPG-powered kitchen that will create a cleaner, safer, healthier, and more efficient cooking environment for both our students and staff.

Heavy rains delayed the start for months, but standing together today, watching the site being cleared and surrounded by students, teachers, staff, and community leaders, made the wait worth it.

This is not just about upgrading a kitchen.
It is about dignity.
It is about health.
It is about creating better spaces for the people who serve and care for children every day.

To Redeemer's Church, thank you for believing in this vision and walking this journey with us. Your partnership continues to create meaningful change in the lives of children and families in Huruma.

We cannot wait to see the first meal prepared in this new space. โค๏ธ

Today, we took the first step.

We officially launched the Assisted GCP Project in Huruma and Mathare, uniting over 260 entrepreneurs eager to grow, learn, and transform their futures.

Furaha is proud to be selected among SBS Global Catalyst Partners in Kenya to lead this journey. Over the next few months (Aprilโ€“August 2026), we will train four cohorts across two locations, providing entrepreneurs with practical skills, coaching, and confidence to build sustainable businesses.

Our Executive Director and our Lead Coaches connected with participants today, setting the stage for what begins this Thursday, April 2nd, with orientation.

For 20 years, Furaha has supported families in this community. Today, we aim to go even furtherโ€”empowering not just children, but entire households, because when a parent thrives, a childโ€™s future improves.

We look forward to the journey ahead and are grateful to Street Business School (SBS) and all partners making this possible.

We are deeply grateful to our partners, friends, churches, and funders who journeyed from afar to be with us at Furaha. Your presence in our Primary School, Junior Secondary, and High School celebrations meant more than words can express.

You didnโ€™t just visit. You celebrated every milestone with us. You witnessed our students showcase their talents, confidence, laughter, and gratitude. You shared in the joy of a community rising.

To the churches represented. Thank you for releasing your pastors and leaders to stand with us. Your prayers, encouragement, and faithful support continue to strengthen this mission. Together, we thank God for the transformation happening through Furaha in Huruma.

Because of your love and partnership:
โ€ข Children are learning and thriving
โ€ข Families are gaining hope
โ€ข A community is breaking cycles of poverty
โ€ข Christโ€™s love is being demonstrated in practical ways

These moments of celebration reaffirm our shared commitment that together, we can make a lasting difference.

We value you. We thank God for you. And we are stronger because we walk this journey together.

โ€œFor 20 years, healing has been part of the Furaha story.โ€

Through Lydia, our school nurse, we see the heart of our healthcare and wellness program, where children and families are cared for with dignity, compassion, and consistency.

From preventive and curative care to nutrition support, our therapy center, and family support groups, lives have been transformed and hope restored across our community.

To all our partners and donors, thank you. Your support goes beyond funding. It brings healing, strength, and renewed dignity to children and families who need it most.

As we step into a new year, we wish you a happy and hopeful New Year.

Furaha remains a place where health, care, and human dignity come first.
