Umma Muslim Hospital (UMH) is faith based Health Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) registered in Kenya in 2020, so far it has operational presence in Northern Kenya, Nairobi and operational office in Machakos county. "When a man passes away, his good deeds will also come to an end except for three: Sadaqah Jariyah (ceaseless charity); a knowledge which is beneficial, or a virtuous descendant who
prays for him (for the deceased)" Narrated by Abu Hurairah, Sahih Muslim. Umma Muslim Hospital (UMH) is faith based Health Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) registered in Kenya in 2020, though existing as an entity from 2019, so far it has operational presence in Northern Kenya, Nairobi and operational office in Machakos county. It’s an initiative of Muslim youth mainly of medical professions and religious leaders who come together to subsidize on how to cover gaps in health care among the neediest members of the society through provision of affordable quality health care services. Basem etal (2020) mentioned that delivering high-quality care to patients of the Muslim faith requires an understanding of the differences in cultural and spiritual values. Important differences include diet, ideas of modesty, privacy, touch restriction, and alcohol intake restriction. Globally, Muslims represent substantial portions of society, and Islam remains the fastest-growing religion in the world. It is highly likely that a healthcare professional will care for a Muslim patient during his or her career. The Muslim faith encompasses several ethnicities with diverse views regarding illness and healthcare. As a result, the care of Muslim patients provides challenges for many non-Muslim healthcare providers. The Islamic faith can influence decision-making, family dynamics, health practices, and risks and the use of healthcare. UMH would address the unique needs of Muslim patients, including issues related to culture; religion, such as the need for same-gender providers, hygiene, strict prayer times observation and adjustment of medication regimens for Ramadan among others. Despite UMH being Muslim based faith NGO, its designed to serve humanity regardless of race, color, religion, sexual orientation or disability, the Hospital is meant to provide all kind of health care services with more focus on Reproductive health. The humanitarian situation in Kenya and around the world has deteriorated rapidly due to the COVID-19 pandemic, desert locusts, recurrent waterborne disease outbreaks, flooding and slow recovery from the recurring drought. Access to basic social services is limited for vulnerable populations, particularly women and children. The pandemic has disrupted critical health services and negatively impacted maternal and child health and nutrition indicators. UMH requests US$20.2 million to address the critical needs of vulnerable population in Kenya more so Women and children and therefore requesting well-wishers and donors to contribute generously to the Organization.
