Empowering Women for a Safer and More Digital Future 💻🌐

Our ongoing Online Trust & Safety (OTS) Training at Imara Daima continues to equip women with practical knowledge and skills to navigate the internet safely, securely and confidently.

We were honoured to welcome the Chairman of Computers for Schools Kenya (CFSK), Dr. Tom Musili, who visited the training alongside local community leadership, including Hon. Jennifer Mumbua and Reverend Ngesi of Overcomer Truth Church, Imara Daima, where the training is currently taking place.

Alongside Online Trust & Safety, the programme is also offering entrepreneurship training, helping women understand how they can use the internet and digital platforms to start, promote and grow their businesses.

We sincerely appreciate the support of the local community leadership for providing an enabling environment for us to bring digital knowledge, entrepreneurship skills and opportunities closer to the community.

We believe that empowering women with both digital safety skills and digital business skills enables them to participate more confidently and meaningfully in the digital economy.

Empowering Women Entrepreneurs for a Safer Digital Future 💻🔐

Computers for Schools Kenya (CFSK), in partnership with the Internet Society, is currently conducting an Online Trust & Safety and Online Entrepreneurship Training Programme for women entrepreneurs.

The programme is designed to equip women with practical knowledge and skills to navigate the digital space safely, securely and confidently, while making better use of the internet to support and grow their businesses.

Participants are being trained on key areas including:

🔐 Safe and secure use of the internet
🚨 Identifying and avoiding online scams and fraud
🛡️ Data privacy and protection
💻 Responsible use of digital platforms
📈 Leveraging the internet for entrepreneurship and business growth

The training will run throughout the week, providing participants with practical skills and knowledge that they can apply in their businesses and day-to-day digital activities.

Through this partnership, CFSK and the Internet Society are supporting women entrepreneurs to build safer, more confident and more resilient digital businesses.

Last Friday, we celebrated the successful completion of another training journey as our learners graduated as Community-Centred Connectivity Technicians! 🎉

The graduation marked the successful completion of three key courses:

🔹 Designing and Deploying Computer Networks
🔹 Community Network Readiness and Assessment
🔹 Building Wireless Community Networks

Throughout the training, learners gained valuable knowledge and practical skills essential for supporting the development, deployment and sustainability of community-centred connectivity solutions.

The journey has been one of learning, growth and transformation, as participants progressed from learners to skilled technicians equipped with the knowledge and confidence to contribute to stronger and more connected communities.

The BWCN training journey continues as our learners build both theoretical knowledge and practical, hands-on skills in community-centred connectivity.

Participants have had the opportunity to interact with and explore a range of networking equipment, including the **LTU Pro, LTU LR, Dream Router, AC Mesh**, and other essential connectivity technologies. Through hands-on sessions, learners are gaining practical experience in understanding, assembling and working with real-world networking devices.

🎓 Celebrating New Community Network Technicians!

Computers for Schools Kenya (CFSK), in partnership with the Internet Society, proudly celebrated the graduation of Community Network Technicians following the successful completion of the Designing and Deploying Computer Networks (DDCN),Community Network Readiness Assessment (CNRA),and Building Wireless Community Networks (BWCN) courses.

The graduation marked the successful completion of the training ,equipping them with the knowledge and practical skills required to design, deploy, and sustain community networks.

The colourful ceremony was graced by Ms. Esther Kioni, Senior Director, Training and E-Learning at the Internet Society, who served as the Chief Guest, and Dr. Tom Musili, Chairman of Computers for Schools Kenya. Also in attendance were local administration officials, the area OCS, the area Chief, representatives from other organizations, and other invited guests who joined us in celebrating this important milestone.

This achievement reflects the power of collaboration between Computers for Schools Kenya and the Internet Society and our shared commitment to advancing digital inclusion, strengthening community connectivity, and empowering the next generation of network technicians.

📡 Day 4 of the Building Wireless Community Networks (BWCN) Bootcamp

Yesterday, learning reached new heights—literally!
Our learners took to the mast for a hands-on field exercise, where they installed wireless access points, mounted receivers, and configured networking devices in a real-world deployment environment.
Applying their understanding of the electromagnetic spectrum, they worked to establish reliable wireless links by identifying the correct line of sight (LoS) and optimizing signal strength between devices.
These practical sessions are equipping participants with the technical skills and confidence needed to design, deploy, and maintain wireless community networks that can help bridge the digital divide in underserved and marginalized communities.
Every practical session brings us one step closer to building the next generation of community connectivity technicians.

Day 3 of the Building Wireless Community Networks (BWCN) Bootcamp 📡👷

Learning continued with practical, hands-on sessions as participants configured PowerBeam devices and gained a deeper understanding of device management, including how to correctly reset and reconfigure wireless equipment.
Safety remained a key focus as learners were introduced to mast climbing safety procedures. Through practical demonstrations, they learned the proper use of safety harnesses and belts while simulating mast climbing, reinforcing the importance of safe installation and maintenance practices in wireless network deployments.

Day 2 of the Building Wireless Community Networks (BWCN) Bootcamp 🚀

Yesterday was all about hands-on learning as our learners put theory into practice by assembling and configuring industry-standard wireless networking equipment.

The learners successfully worked with:
📡 LTU LR
📡 LTU XR
📡 LTU Pro
📡 LTU Rocket
📡 AirFiber
📡 AirMax Sector Antennas (60°, 90°, and 120°)

They also configured the devices and applied the practical skills gained during the DDCN bootcamp by crimping Ethernet cables, reinforcing the importance of proper network installation and connectivity.

It is exciting to see our learners building confidence through practical experience as they develop the technical skills needed to deploy and maintain wireless community networks.

Today, we officially welcomed our learners for the Building Wireless Community Networks (BWCN) Bootcamp🎉

The learning journey is off to a great start with sessions covering the electromagnetic spectrum and ring topology, providing learners with a strong foundation in wireless networking concepts.

The participants also had hands-on experience with UISP, where they designed wireless network connectivity by configuring access points and receivers. In addition, they explored Ubiquiti devices, gaining practical skills that will prepare them for deploying real-world community networks.

We’re excited for an engaging week of interactive learning, collaboration, and hands-on practice as we continue building the next generation of community network champions.
