We had the honor and privilege to participate in the two day IFRA for AFRICA FORUM in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania held on August 5-6,2026. Our Secretary General, William Oloo Janak who represented us at the forum called for the mainstreaming of the media in the forum and other major conversation spaces happening in the continent. He had a chance to exchange views with government officials from different states in Africa, officials of key agencies implementing infrastructure projects in Africa, Media Sector colleagues and other actors. It has been a packed day here in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania at the INFRA for AFRICA FORUM. President Samia Suluhu opened the forum with a call for more investment in the infrastructure sector in Africa. Kenya's Deputy President Prof Kithure Kindiki addressed the forum and emphasized the importance of collective approach to infrastructure development but warned of challenges of subnational identity politics, faltering democratic steps and the challenges of regime transitions in Africa which often undermined long term plans as successive governments may not necessarily carry forward some of the planned projects. Expert panels discussed a number of other topics including technology, power generation, mobilization of resources for long term financing of the infrastructure needs of the continent. There has been a strong call for transborder,regional and continent -wide planning of the infrastructure projects to benefit from economies of scale and major industrial development projects across Africa.

We wish to condemn the shutdown of Nation Media Group -Uganda by security officers. This is a flagrant violation of press freedom and by extension, denial of access to information to Uganda citizens and others in the East Africa Region served by the media outlet. We are alarmed by the increasing pattern of attacks on journalists and media, not only in the East Africa Region but across Africa. In the case of Uganda, we call on the authorities to immediately stop the siege on the media outlet premises in Kampala and allow it to operate unimpeded. Any breaches of the law by the media outlet should be handled through the legal processes which will accord the media management and any aggrieved parties, including the government, a chance to present their arguments and resolve the dispute amicably.
