Our Secretary General, William Oloo Janak has this evening delivered a keynote address and conveyed a message of solidarity to Sudanese journalists during the screening of "Truth under fire: Sudanese journalists between exile and the war on information". He assured them of solidarity and support from the rest of African Journalists as they brave the difficulties following the turmoil in Sudan.

We are happy and honored to be part of the Annual Pan-African Media Summit in Nairobi, Kenya. Great conversations going on at the summit: Media Sustainability, Support and independence in Africa; strengthening dialogue between regulators and online platforms on information integrity;AI in the present and future of information spaces; pathways and opportunities for international cooperation; Election preparedness and democratic resilience, promoting information integrity for youth; Information pluralism and language diversity, and examining the role of African media agency in promoting Pan Africaism.

We congratulate Ms Idda Mushi , a member of our Governing Council, on receiving a Distinguished Employee Award during the International Workers’ Day (May 1st, 2026) national celebrations held in Njombe, Tanzania.

The award was presented by H.E. President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, recognizing excellence in media service through her service to the Journalists Workers’ Union of Tanzania (JOWUTA) under TUCTA.

"This recognition is not just personal. It reflects the collective efforts and professionalism within our industry across Tanzania and Africa as well," she said after receiving the award.

The Secretary General of the Congress of African Journalists (CAJ), William Oloo, spoke at the graduation of a team of journalists in Nairobi, Kenya. He explained the role of CAJ in the fight for press freedom in Africa and outlined efforts to strengthen the Africa Media Lawyers Network (AMLN), a joint initiative by CAJ and the Pan Africa Lawyers Union (PALU) in addressing challenges facing journalists in Africa. He said the World Press Freedom Day conference in Lusaka, Zambia in May will provide an opportunity to build more support for AMLN and for CAJ to strengthen its collaboration with other players, both in Africa and globally.
