From 16–17 April 2026, RELON-KENYA convened its Board of Governance, Refugee-Led Organizations (RLOs), and persons with disabilities for a two-day Refugee Disability Inclusion Training at
Facilitated with the support of Elham, Director of Disability Inclusion at IRAP, in partnership with UDPK, the training focused on strengthening practical and strategic approaches to disability inclusion across refugee-led initiatives.
Key thematic areas included inclusive program design, safeguarding and protection, accessibility audits, inclusive communication, budgeting for inclusion, and disability-inclusive fundraising. The sessions also emphasized meaningful participation and leadership of persons with disabilities, as well as building strong partnerships and referral systems.
This engagement marks an important step toward institutionalizing inclusion within RELON-KENYA’s work. Key outcomes include a commitment to develop a Disability Inclusion Action Plan, integrate inclusion into all future programming, and establish a community of practice among RLOs.
By embedding disability inclusion as both a cross-cutting and standalone priority, RELON-KENYA continues to advance equitable, accountable, and impactful solutions for refugees with disabilities.
