Our Executive Director Kasika recently had the opportunity to participate in a 2-day validation workshop (22–23 April 2026) on the ICGLR Strategy, organized by ReDSS with support from the EU.
During the workshop, he shared perspectives from refugees across the Great Lakes region—highlighting the real barriers that continue to limit access to durable solutions, as well as practical steps that can move us forward.
Meaningful change goes beyond policy frameworks—it requires actively including refugee voices in decision-making processes. Their experiences and insights are essential to shaping solutions that truly work.

From 16–17 April 2026, RELON-KENYA convened its Board of Governance, Refugee-Led Organizations (RLOs), and persons with disabilities for a two-day Refugee Disability Inclusion Training at
Facilitated with the support of Elham, Director of Disability Inclusion at IRAP, in partnership with UDPK, the training focused on strengthening practical and strategic approaches to disability inclusion across refugee-led initiatives.
Key thematic areas included inclusive program design, safeguarding and protection, accessibility audits, inclusive communication, budgeting for inclusion, and disability-inclusive fundraising. The sessions also emphasized meaningful participation and leadership of persons with disabilities, as well as building strong partnerships and referral systems.
This engagement marks an important step toward institutionalizing inclusion within RELON-KENYA’s work. Key outcomes include a commitment to develop a Disability Inclusion Action Plan, integrate inclusion into all future programming, and establish a community of practice among RLOs.
By embedding disability inclusion as both a cross-cutting and standalone priority, RELON-KENYA continues to advance equitable, accountable, and impactful solutions for refugees with disabilities. We are deeply honored and inspired 🙏
Last weekend, Mr. Msafiri Francois—a refugee, a marathoner, and now a champion—won first place in a race organized by Trafford Sports Wear in partnership with Samsung. Today, he visited us at Relon-kenya Relon-kenya to hand over his medal as a gesture of appreciation for the work we do in supporting refugees and their organizations.
This act goes far beyond the medal itself—it is a powerful symbol of trust, resilience, and shared purpose.
Msafiri’s journey reminds us of the incredible talent within refugee communities—talent that, with the right support, can shine and uplift others. His story is not just about victory in sport, but about unity, hope, and the possibility of bringing refugee and host communities together.
As we approach the general elections, this message becomes even more important. We all need each other. Peace is the foundation that unites us, and through collective support, we can nurture talents like Msafiri’s to build bridges and inspire harmony.
Let us stand together to support, uplift, and invest in such transformative stories.

We were pleased to hold a strategic engagement meeting with the Equity Bank Kenya Foundation to explore opportunities for collaboration in advancing inclusive economic empowerment for refugees and asylum seekers.

The discussion focused on RELON’s work in strengthening Refugee-Led Organizations (RLOs) and promoting institutional resilience while learning more about the Foundation’s key pillars in financial inclusion, enterprise development, and sustainable livelihoods.

A central focus was identifying practical pathways to unlock access to financial services, including strengthening RLO financial governance systems, expanding access to appropriate financial products for refugee-led enterprises, and promoting responsible financial literacy for both institutions and individuals.

As displacement contexts increasingly demand sustainable, market-based solutions, cross-sector partnerships such as this are essential to bridging systemic gaps in access to finance. We look forward to advancing this engagement toward structured collaboration that enhances accountability, self-reliance, and long-term economic resilience.

We look forward to advancing this collaboration into a structured partnership that promotes accountability, dignity, and long-term self-reliance.
